ParticipantI think the wildcard is interest rate
Right now, the govt is propping up a lot of prices here n there by keeping rates low.
Not sure how do you differentiate crash Vs correction. But as we all agree, a correction is coming both in stock market and housing market.
I see a lot of people dis-agreeing saying “this time is different” but history has taught us otherwise.A correction is due, the reasons may not be the same. So each time is indeed different.

ParticipantRan some high level numbers for condos to buy to rent out. I didn’t see anyway I could have + cashflow.
I was looking in desirable areas known to me and not at run down property.I agree that properties needing repairs/renovations are not really priced accordingly. Thus I’d prefer a property with some renovations already done…
Also, I am bad at fixing/handy-man-ish kind of thing and even if I do it myself, it takes my time away from kids which won’t work for me.fun4vnay2

ParticipantMy own company is creating the newer positions out of san diego as it is not sustainable for engineers to live here in san diego.
Home prices would drop for sure in san diego, it’s a matter of time..

ParticipantPer my experience, san diego is not the best place to call this as permanent base job keeping in mind the flight of jobs to cheaper cost places along with difficult to do business in CA.
This is at-least what I see from anecdotal evidences. If san diego is like LA or SFO, I understand but..

ParticipantHuman body is meant to be always doing something.
All the material comforts we have meant nothing for human body. The comforts works against the body…
The way to grow old is labor which is not too hard on the body..

ParticipantPhD in Engineering really won’t help you earn more money.
If one is passionate about research then it makes sense but from monetary stand point it does.
Even master’s in EE does not really make sensesSpeaking from experience by observing few of my friends…

ParticipantHow much people building homes or pulling weeds from lawns get ?
Doe sit mean that only these kind of low paying jobs would be left. This topic is close to my heart as I am witnessing almost firsthand how the high paying jobs ( 150K+ ) are being eaten away by low cost sources and AI/automation.
People saying that these would create another set of jobs at a higher level is simply hog wash..
Don’t have time to write a long post, may be some other time..
