ParticipantOur family (back to the grandparents)
have owned primary and rental property all over San Diego County (mostly coastal) for over 40 years, and it’s interesting to see this breakdown. Thanks for posting.flyer
ParticipantThe past comments are excellent, and truly worthy of your consideration.
Along with those thoughts, I’d like to add that, because we all have so much, and have done so much in this world, at some point, this life CAN seem empty after you’ve “done it all.”
As you, my wife and I (kids are gone) pretty much have everything we want, and have been just about everywhere we want to go, but, because of our spiritual beliefs, we realize the best is yet to come.
Once you truly and fully realize that, you stop clinging to what you think should make you happy, and realize the deep sense of happiness and peace you seek comes from a relationship with something outside of yourself. For us, that peace and happiness comes from our relationship with God, and from helping our families and others in any way we can.
We all want the best in this world to last forever, but good, bad or indifferent–EVERYTHING IN THIS WORLD IS TEMPORARY–get over it. Once you do, you’re free.

ParticipantWe live in Rancho Santa Fe, not far from 4S, and have friends who live in both of the areas you mentioned.
If you will be commuting to a job on a daily basis, you should definitely consider choosing the location closest to your employer.
San Diego traffic has become pretty bad over the last few years, and you don’t want to waste any more time than you have to in gridlock. If the employment consideration is not an issue, then you need to visit both locations and determine which best suits your personal lifestyle–schools, shopping, golf courses, beach access, etc. You might also want to check out Carmel Valley (92130).
We just happen to prefer the RSF, Del Mar, Torrey Pines areas for schools, beaches, golf, etc. These areas seem to fit our lifestyle best, but everyone is different.
Good luck, and enjoy whatever choice you make!

ParticipantMy wife and I are “Boomers” of 50, and have lots of friends all over the county who are also in the same age group. Few seem to be talking about downsizing.
Most of our “Boomer” friends in RSF (where we live), seem to be planning, as we are, to hand things over to the kids and grandkids.
From what we’re hearing, this seems to be holding true for lots of the families we know who have been in San Diego most of their lives.
