ParticipantEnjoyed reading the article. There certainly is a lot of “advice” out there–probably because none of us really know exactly what might happen–so we’re receptive to many points of view.
Had Grandparents who did incredibly well shorting the market “way back when,” but it’s really hard to know what position to take in our present economic situation.
Along with real estate, we’ve been stashing cash for many
years–hopefully it will pay off! Thanks again for the post.

ParticipantMore interesting info!
Even though we did acquire property as I mentioned before, we do still work. Both my wife and I have been airline pilots for the past 20 years, so I guess that puts us in the top tier of household income, per your charts. Frankly, quite surprised at the low percentage rate in this category in San Diego.

ParticipantI’ve enjoyed reading this very informative thread, and totally agree with poorgradstudent and sdrealtor regarding income vs. net worth, generally speaking, and specifically with regard to property holdings in San Diego County.
Many families, like ours, who have been in San Diego for many years have acquired true “gems” when it comes to property. We initially concentrated on properties in the Point Loma (Fleetridge, etc.) and Sunset Cliffs areas, and continued to purchase more all along the coast. Several family members are still in their original homes, others have passed their properties on to the next generation, and others are rentals.
Most of this had to do with being at the right place at the right time, and recognizing the potential of what used to simply be considered nothing more than a “Quiet Navy Town.”
Since growing up here, my family (wife and kids) have lived many other places in the world, but we always seem to come back to San Diego. Regardless of exactly where in the County each of us live,
we are truly blessed to be here–so just enjoy!!flyer

ParticipantOur family (back to the grandparents)
have owned primary and rental property all over San Diego County (mostly coastal) for over 40 years, and it’s interesting to see this breakdown. Thanks for posting.flyer
