ParticipantI didn’t say that religious people are less intelligent, I said that the Swedes (as do many people) consider that the more religious someone is, the less intelligent they are. That doesn’t mean that they are right. I would argue, however, that there is a vast amount of mindless sheep which follow religion (in the ranks), and that they, as a whole, are probably less intelligent than a group of people who have renounced the shackles of religion.
As to your father-in-law I think that it’s great that he gave clean water and modern conveniences to those who are less fortunate. I’m also sure that he is very smart, no one called him less intelligent because he is religious. As a Christian missionary, I do think that he was doing bad while doing good. Sorry – I think it’s despicable to help people as long as they have to take the poison with it.
I hope that some of the benefactors of his good work were just paying lip service to having his theology forced down their throats. When very poor people have to hear a sermon to have their free lunch, it does a disservice to the ideals of charity and good deads. When Bush won’t use federal money if there is any contraception or abortion in an organization, he is preaching his hate based religion along with the carrot of money for the poor.
It’s a sad world when religion is involved. Missionaries have been responsible for a lot of sadness and evil in this world. Read James Mitchner’s Hawaii – if you want an account of hypocrisy and evil in the name of religion.
Question for you CardiffBaseball? If he wasn’t allowed to preach his beliefs, would his group still have done the good works? Just wondering. To many people, spreading Christianity is not a good thing – it’s a reprehensible action taken by cult-like hypocrites.
Sorry – just my and many others opinion. By the way it’s hard to measure the good that missionaries do by helping people along with the bad they do by bringing foreign ideologies into native peoples own belief system. I think that religion is the dirty paste which gums up the positive potential of a society. If we didn’t have all these fantasy worshipers each absolutely sure of their own brand of fantasy, perhaps people would group together to help others instead of being afraid of them.

ParticipantYou didn’t answer back about the north county scruffy…
If my neighbor sold for 2.5M in 2005, I sold for 2.05 in Dec 2006 and 2 new houses came on for 2,095,000 (with a bottom level of 1.8M for one of them) they will sell for sub 2M. If they sell. One is on for 8 months and started at 2.45M. They guy who thought he was going to get out quickly has 8 months of having people come through his house
The real estate company in the area said that it is dead. They had to lease their offices out. They had built out for 15 agents, they are down to 1 full time and 2 part time. They are personally in financial trouble.
A new group of 4 houses which were in the 2M+ are now down to 1.75M and no takers… They just dropped another 100K. Guess hype isn’t talking about San Diego… Glad I bailed when i could!

ParticipantI agree… Look at GW if you want to see self-serving and inhumanity. A man who actually laughed about killing a retarded criminal. A man who will sacrifice thousands of soldiers and tens of thousands of civilians instead of admitting his mistakes and incompetence.
Amazing…. In claiming to try to stop terrorism, he has become the number one terrorist. Torturing and kidnapping people in the name of god and country. If we had any credibility in the world, it is shot now. Why would anyone look up to or follow a nation which condones torture and which tramples on it’s own civil liberties. A nation which executes other human beings in order to get vengeance. A nation which kills for oil and rapes the environment in order not to upset the economic status quo for it’s wealthier denizens.
Sadistic guards beating and torturing both the enemies as well as the innocents – because there is no system of checks and balances and a flawed command structure where if the king doesn’t get the consensus for his flawed ideology, the generals are fired or demoted. Honorable fighting men and women sacrificed for bad judgment and a need to hold on to the power lever or the enemies of it’s religious agenda would take over…. The list goes on…
Lucky that Paris Hilton and other important news is on the forefront of the citizens minds, they don’t realize that a dangerous lunatic is in command and is destroying the nation that we sing about.

ParticipantIn Sweden the small fraction of society which is religious is looked down on (and considered less intelligent). They have a progressive society – one free from a lot of the prejudice and cult worshiping we have here. It’s also a much safer society. Wow – no mass killings in the street.
If you rate a society by it’s level of religious activity there is a direct correlation between it’s religiousness and it’s crime. More worship – more hate. More worship – more crime. More worship – more fantasy. Ohhh…. Lots of people not taking responsibility for their own actions. People who don’t have the fantasy have to take responsibility for their own actions.
By the way, GW was duly elected also… Whats that got to do with anything? By the way – George loves to execute people. It’s the texas way! Lots of the really religious Christians in our society love the idea of putting people to death. Surprised that any self respecting church would allow him to worship with them. Oh… Guess they are all hypocrites.
Keep drinking the Kool-aid 4.

ParticipantAwesomely true Rustico – I think that you are right in it being a separate fight – the religious right on one side of the power equation, the apathy of a public gone quiet, more interested in Paris Hilton than a mad power hungry self serving group of citizens who have hijacked our morals, our money, our social status in the world and our pocketbooks.
We need to keep expressing our views – try to get people to vote their conscience vs. their fears and educate people to the real issues in our society (hard to do without preaching!). Just watched the movie “Who killed the electric car”…. Amazing… Just more greedy people hurting our future for their own oil-driven greed.
Have to unblog now, family wants more social interaction on vacation! I did, however, sign a petition to impeach Bush, Chaney, and some others. Not sure if it means anything – but I like to get counted.

ParticipantWow scruffy – I’m amazed…. That moderate earners (40-50K per year) are tearing down houses and buying 6 million dollar lots!
Are you kidding? What does the super high end have to do with anything? Other than Republican theft and greed? There is more money in the highest end than ever before. This is not the nation, it’s not even reality other than for the .01%!!!
My old neighborhood sold for 2M-2.1M in 2004, 2.2-2.5 in 2005 and went back to 2M-2.1M in 2006. My neighbor didn’t get out in time, his house is on the market for 7 months now at 1.8M-2.2M. I suspect he will sell for 1.85M or less. He would have sold (with a new sports court, poolhouse, etc.) for 2.4-2.5 if he had sold in 2005.
His house only shows 40 days on the market. Seems every time you change a Realtor – you can lie. The actual information in this market is minimal, misleading, and corrupt.
Home sales are DEAD in that 2 acre – wealthy, but not super-wealthy neighborhood. Remember – you are ONLY seeing the houses which actually sell! The houses which are selling are selling because they are really great houses. The rest of them (with a single flaw – such as a smaller back yard, no pool, too close to a road, or ANYTHING else – sit on the market.
Comparing the super-high end has no basis in reality! Also – it’s easy to buy a house, it’s very hard to sell one in a market like this. Your information is as misleading as it is simplistic.
p.s. My cousin is a realtor. His house has been slightly overpriced as he keeps pricing it where is should have been a year ago. It has sat for 9 months, he is in a reverse am mortgage, and he is in desperate shape.
I’m here in Wisconsin on vacation. Same deal…. Many houses for sale and many being taken off the market. It won’t be a dramatic fall (unless more market forces start a crisis which I think might happen), it could unravel for 10 years. We are in a crisis but at the beginning – smart money will take a slight hit now and get out.
I am not a bitter renter – living in an awesome house. would rather buy, but am going to wait and see how much more damage will happen.
Last point – I’m one of the anti-religious fighters… Just having some fun and not spreading it to all blogs… One major thread only. And if that’s not appropriate – sorry. There isn’t much different in the market except the Schaudenfraud in waiting for more misery. It’s a very human experience, sad but true. Are you a 6 percenter?

Participant“radicals, elitists and pseudo-experts”… I guess if you don’t accept the dogma – you are branded as a kook.
On a personal note – I can’t accept a great level of tolerance for people who are affecting our society in a dangerous way. Our current problems in governing our country are to a great extent the fault of the fantasy worshipers.
Get the religion out of politics, keep your fantasy to yourself, and if you will try to corrupt and hurt our country you need to be fought against.
The usual American apathy allows dangerous radical jesus freaks to have terribly hurt our nation, our military and our values. Real values should not be based on a hypocritical cult worshiping cartel.
Sorry to be so angry about this – but I’m not spreading the poison.
This is a war to some extent – and the prize is the future of our country. I didn’t start it, I’m trying to fight it. Newt Gingrich started the Evangelical move to take over politics. The trend has accelerated and a dangerous and very incompetent boob is running our country. The detractors on this forum are supporting a position, which in my opinion, is dangerous to our freedom, our society, and our true family values.
Lets keep our fantasies to ourselves and not inflict them on society.
THere… I’ve said it and I’m proud to support a position.
