ParticipantInteresting, thanks for sharing. Seems like this “hour-glass” mirrors the trend in the rest of the country.

Participant

Yea I am not seeing it either (the big crash), maybe I am wrong.
Not that I am a fan of Oil, but it gets below 20 I think I will go long Oil a little.
Done…. bought some index funds.
I planned on doing exactly the same today, but got cold feet. Maybe tomorrow.cvmom
Participant
I think my days of trying to individually stock pick is over. What I have done is simply take my $3000/month that I use to pay towards a mortgage and impound account and now do a direct deposit into my vanguard account, where it gets auto invested into 5 vanguard index funds covering the total stock market, total international stock market, a tax exempt bond fund, and a money market fund.
That, and I make sure to max out my employee stock purchase and plan on selling immediately to get that 20% gain.
Scary. This is almost exactly what I do, practically word for word!

Participant
Also just thought I’d put this out there, there is a site called nixle that will connect you to emergency alerts via text or voice alerts, just signed up to it.
I know it is OT, but I recently killed my nixle subscription due to too many middle-of-the-night notifications of child abductions. I know it must be awful to have a child abducted, but I am not going to be able to do much to help at 2am…

ParticipantYou guys are so helpful. This board is a goldmine of info and I appreciate it so much. Thanks so much to each of you!
ps. I would give more info about the situation if I could, but since the person in question is not me, I just don’t feel comfortable posting any more details. In any case, I will say that your input has been VERY helpful, and leave it at that.

Participant
Then there’s the new ruling from the IRS. If you max out your 401k, any excess after-tax contributions can be automatically rolled into a roth IRA at distribution.
Basically another backdoor way to a Roth IRA if your income is past the limits.
Hey, this is really useful info. Thanks so much for posting!

ParticipantThis thread is so depressing. Hard to believe that this is 2015 and we have apparently not progressed beyond naked prejudice. What’s next–internment camps like the Japanese-Americans during WW2?
And with a major political party’s front runner saying similar things, it validates all those who have this kind of thoughts but before this have been too embarrassed to share them.
The worst thing is that this kind of attitude plays right into the hands of the terrorists and fuels extremism, making future tragedies more likely.

Participant
Employer match is always to a traditional IRA, which currently my employer has at 4% I think.
Flu, you gave me a heart attack on this. But I did confirm that my company matches to Roth 401k contributions as well, not only to the traditional one. Just FYI

Participant

Sorry but you are not going to make 175K as an Engineer in San Diego. For that kind of pay you will need to be in management of some sort. If anybody has example to the contrary, I would be interested in hearing the details (i.e. what company and job).
Not to make you feel bad, but you would be wrong.
Participant
I bought a pressure cooker to make healthful meals so I can stay young and good looking. Someone told me it’s the lowest price ever.

Much too late for me to stay young or good-looking, but I bought exactly the same thing! It was $78, I see it has already gone up considerably since Friday.

Participant
2 to 3 beers, or 2 to 3 6 packs?
If it’s just a couple beers a week I’d say pric ed us irrelevant.
Yes just 2-3 beers. Thanks for giving me a reason to rationalize buying the good stuff 🙂

ParticipantI really don’t want to drink anything other than Green Flash West Coast IPA, it’s crazy expensive but I don’t have more than 2-3 per week, still would like a cheaper (but similar) alternative if it exists.

ParticipantSugar Bowl. Good for beginners and cheaper than many. Side benefit: it is also right next to Royal Gorge, and we like to cross-country ski as well.
