Obama enters the discussion, no doubt in part to deflect attention from Benghazi and other issues.
Paramount: While I don’t disagree that Obama & Co. are undoubtedly welcoming this as a distraction, I will personally say that I found his remarks very sincere and made in the spirit of unity.
Given the off-the-cuff nature of the remarks, it was even more impressive. I don’t have much love for the man, especially due to his policies, but he was a national leader in that speech.
I think a lot of what Obama said in his recent speech was more BS and blame shifting. Saying “that he could have been TM 35 years ago”. And that he’s been racially profiled. Continues to ignore the fact that a jury of 6 believed that TM jumped Zimmerman, pounded his head in the concrete to the point where GZ shot him in self defense. THAT IS WHAT A JURY OF 6 CONCLUDED! End of story. End of speculation. There is ZERO proof of any racial profiling. ZERO. Would have Obama 35 years ago also jumped someone and pounded their head in the concrete? I highly doubt it. Those comments to me continue to follow the black leaderships long history of shifting of blame for their behavior off themselves on to someone else.
The speech was merely an explanation of how an African-American’s perception of the case or life in general could be different than that of the average Anglo. I heard no judgement or criticism in the speech. Please listen again with an open mind.
I believe it all comes down to distrust. Yes, times have changed significantly in many parts of the country but, memories are long.
One of the posters above recounts the hassles one of his kid’s friends. I can tell you from experience that interaction breeds distrust and disgust. I had a discussion about this at work with co-workers the other day and my co-workers seemed to be shocked that I and another “black guy” were fearful/distrustful of the cops based on our personal experiences. If the shoes were on the other foot for a day I think most of you would be appalled.
Today I’m 37 and I don’t touch anything I don’t have to when I’m in a store. I stay in the middle of the isle and try to stay in clear view of cameras. I do this mainly to reduce the chances of an accusation of some sort of wrong doing being leveled at me because the accusation alone can be more than enough.
Sadly, I teach my sons to do the same. We’re not criminals, far from it but, there’s always the chance that we could be held responsible for the perceptions of others.
creechrrParticipantBased on what you’ve described, I doubt you’d be happy with a Jetta Sportwagen and an A3 would be even worse. As a Sportwagen owner with two kids, the interior space can get cramped very quickly. In fact, I’ve been eyeing the Ford Flex as a family hauler.
The sportwagen with the diesel is pretty awesome on the highway.

He’s a really knowledgable and cool guy.
Congrats on the find.
I hate you!

Only F1 rivals this and most F1 drivers come from Kart.

Can’t argue with that.
You can even eliminate maintenance, tools and trailers if you run with CalSpeed Karting. Their arrive and drive program is fun, competitive and trouble free.

The add you linked and what you describe don’t add up.
December 14, 2012 at 11:54 AM in reply to: OT: Reason #168 to hate california. stupid emissions rules #756306creechrrParticipantExactly what I was thinking. Looking for one myself.
I believe that cat was flanged. Should be easy peasy. Drive to Arizona. Pick up a power ball ticket while you’re there.
December 14, 2012 at 11:46 AM in reply to: OT: Reason #168 to hate california. stupid emissions rules #756302creechrrParticipantWhat model car are we talking about?
I can only think of a handful that would be worth the effort around that vintage. And, they would NOT have the cat integrated into the exhaust manifold. Which should make for an easier swap.

It seems like if the smog test place reports cars that fail, it counts against them(even if they are a test only facility…)…I was like huh?
Pretty stupid…
What? That would only encourage the smog shop to fudge the test.
I personally have a car that is due for smog and I’m waiting till January. I want to see how this new process works or doesn’t. My cat is 8 years old with a couple track days and canyon runs on it. I think I’d rather the port test.
December 14, 2012 at 11:20 AM in reply to: OT: Reason #168 to hate california. stupid emissions rules #756291creechrrParticipantYes, OBDII started with MY ’96 but, my understanding is that the new test with be performed on from MY 2000 on up. I think this is when the post-cat O2 sensor became mandatory.
It appears to me that the an ECU clear of codes and the post-cat sensor will be the gate keepers to a smog certificate going forward.
December 14, 2012 at 11:10 AM in reply to: OT: Reason #168 to hate california. stupid emissions rules #756287creechrrParticipantWhat year car? OBDII?
Beginning January 1st, MY 2000 and newer will not have to spin the rollers for smog anymore. They going to start just checking the ECU for codes at a “STAR” station.
I think this could be beneficial to some with modified cars.
An O2 sensor spacer could be of benefit.
I can’t find the specific reference at the moment but, there was speculation that a verification of the code will be performed on ’06 and newer vehicles. I assumption was that the check would be done by comparing the checksum data supplied by the OEM against what the ECU is reporting at the time of inspection. That could make reflahsing more challenging.
Yes, I’m also starting to hate this great state.
creechrrParticipantWas the church having financial problems in ’78?
creechrrParticipant
So what’s the best way to fail a smog check?
Destroy you cat but, I find it hard to believe that you can’t find someone to buy a functioning car for more than $1,000. Used car prices have been off the charts since CFC.
creechrrParticipant

5 spd manual hatchback. coveted DX model. dog vomited only one time in back. mouse families have nested once in back under spare tire. comes with many bumperstickers included. has all glass windows. has minor rear and front damage. dents. roof vibrates at high speeds. no radio. has glove compartment AND ashtray. Silver but peeling. also the hatchback struts dont workso you can get guillotined if not careful. i use a vise pliers to hold it open. will show buyer how.
has had 3,000 in repairs over the last 18 months with receipts.
i was thinking of maybe ripping out all the upholstery and carpeting and removing all the seats and just installing one fancy leather racing drivers seat. gotta get rid of smell.
also wondering if a well written craigslist ad could become a viral internet sensation on this car…
scaredy, do you have a passport? You could take it to TJ and have the interior ripped out and redone in carpet or vinyl floors; leather or pleather … what’s your pleasure? You might be surprised how little this costs in comparison to estimates from same types of companies in SD County!
If you would like have a referral to a good auto upholsterer in SD County, pm me and I may be able to help.
You can remove the bumper stickers with “Goo-Gone” and a single-edge razor knife or sharp scraper.
hint: After you get the interior redone and trunk relined, you don’t have to mention the dog’s mistake and the fmr mice nest in your craigslist ad :=]
Or maybe since it runs decent and has an authentic “5-spd overdrive” transmission, creechrr might take it off your hands and fix it up himself! These types of vehicles are hard to find today in your price range that run decent.
I drove a clutch up until ’92 and loved them. I kept trying to shift my Camry for over two years after that, lol :=0
I miss my old ’95 hatchback. If you’re going to get rid of it, let me know. I could care less about the interior. I just need the unibody to be straight and able to pass smog.
