CoronitaParticipant
Hey FLU you should live in a cave in the hills of Temecula to avoid the impeding earthquake and subsequent Tsunami. Nobody wants to buy in CV anyway. You make it sound like it has been one of the best places in the country to buy a place over the past 30 years.
Everything is different now though so you better prep for it man!
But are the caves 15 minutes to la jolla? If not, I’d rather be in La Jolla Adjunct Santee…
CoronitaParticipantFLU’s laws of relativity.
1. In any significant, detrimental event , the only thing that matters is if you are less screwed than the majority of the people that are more screwed than you.
2. Speaking of something far fetched, fiction, that remotely *could* happen in the future with no rational basis is a darn good excuse for missing/missed opportunity in the past and present.
CoronitaParticipant
Think what a strong earthquake in the wrong place would do – make Sandy look like a summer rain shower.
Sure, and tomorrow Jesus Christ could be coming and then it will be all over anyway and a lot of people screwed, so it won’t matter anymore. Or the martians from Mars could be coming, and it’s all over too. Or you could get hit by a bus tomorrow on the way to work, and it won’t matter either…
You’re arguing for the sake of arguing even when it’s completely ridiculous basis of arguing with far flung completely unknown things that *could* happen… Really now…

Housing in tech valley is ALWAYS in demand….Has been, always will be. Parents were there in the 80ies. I was there in 90ies-early 2000, and frankly there might be downturns when tech explodes, but something always starts up again.
Detroit used to be the equivalent of “high tech” before there was such a thing. It relied on heavy industry, which is different than Silicon Valley, but no one ever believed that it could fail. Adjusted for inflation, my parents house (in what was once a nice suburb) is now worth 70% of what it was in 1987.
Well, I guess for practical purposes, I don’t expect it to fail in my lifetime, short of CA falling into the ocean.
Silicon Valley isn’t really silicon anymore. And yet it continues to thrive beyond what started it…No comment on Detroit, though I have my hunches….

“Always” is a hell of a strong word to use — remember that “Silicon Valley” has only been a thing for the past 40 years or so. Tech centers can just as easily end up growing in other cities, especially with improved communications and technology (i.e. Silicon Valley will be its own demise).
Sure whatever you say.
CoronitaParticipant
Family members who have lived all around the Bay Area for years have mentioned this situation, and are wondering if/when/how it all will end.
None of them are planning to sell their homes, so they don’t really care, but it is interesting to watch.
I would never sell a home in the tech valley simply because of serious housing shortage.. Folks that’s never been, never will understand how crazy things work there…
Carmel Valley is not nearly as big a regret for me as Silicon Valley. When I first got there housing was ridiculous. BUT, I should have float more of my stock options into more houses… Back then you could find something 3/3 in Foster City for $300k and on the lagoon. It was new construction and open for investors… Try double the price now.
Occasionally, I entertain the thought of going back there.. But a company like Google would have to double my salary here to even be close to my cost of living here… (In other words, ain’t gonna happen)…
CoronitaParticipant

That’s just cupertino. We aren’t talking about other nicer arenas… Atherton, Los Altos Hills, etc…
A comparable place in Santa Clara County to Mira Mesa is currently around $500/sqft….Never thought I’d see the day when a hole-in-the-wall home in SantaClara would be worth more than a place in CarmelV.
Exactly, when you start talking about nicer areas, it really shows how out outrageous the prices are up there. It also show how cheap houses are down here, relative to up there.I would say $560/sq-ft, not just $500/sq-ft. An area that I would consider similar to Mira Mesa would be the western side of Sunnyvale. That’s almost twice Mira Mesa’s $290/sq-ft. 3-5 miles from major work center, good schools, tract homes on 5-6k sq-ft lots. Most are smaller SFR.
If you plan on relocating, I might know of a house for you to rent there in about 3 months…. $3000/month for about 1700 sqft 🙂 Just kidding…sort of.. (Not kidding about the rent price)…
CoronitaParticipantWhat the hell scaredy..
This isn’t christianmingle.com……
🙂
CoronitaParticipantJust be thankful you aren’t trying to live in the Bay Area/NorCal

CoronitaParticipant
If anything, I thought the industry was going the other way. Mercedes used to have free roadside assistance for all of their cars in the US, no matter how old. Now you have to have had a dealer appointment and spent a minimum price to be “covered.”
Depends on which manufacturer.
BMW and a lot of domestics are including free maintenance and japanese/korean cars are going toward free maintenance.
Mercedes removed the free maintenance. Audi removed the free maintenance, but you can buy a maintenance package for it for the 4 years. Ironically, VW includes free maintenance now when it didn’t use to.
Porsche never had free maintenance.
It’s a Porsche after all.Tesla’s I don’t believe include free maintenance, but I don’t think there’s much to maintain anyway. At least that’s what I recall what the sales rep said when I talked to them. In 2012, I recall the rep said that there was a yearly maintenance required and I forget how much it was, nor do I remember if it was required or optional towards keeping your warranty…
But from what I recall, the cost of maintenance wasn’t much different from any other sort of luxury vehicle in this price range.(For a real sticker shock…Try getting a transmission fluid flush an a Nissan GTR at tje 18k service interval.. Total service cost at a stealer can easily reach $1500)…..
Regardless, most things under “warranty” will be serviced, unless you just happen to be going to a bad stealership… What falls under “warranty” often times is subject to dealer interpretation. People I know have had their cars chipped with modified ECU and have been serviced under “warranty” while as some others that did nothing more than put a CAI on their car had dealers deny warranty claims even when the part(s) in question had nothing to do with the mod.
The deal is most dealers have every incentive to get a 5 star in their service rating for all the categories. Simply because a lot of vehicle allocation, preference, etc is determined partly from that these days….

CoronitaParticipant
Hey flu,
Hmm…well I’ve not heard of things being covered under “warranty” when there is impact and it’s probably the driver’s fault? It seemed to me that it was caused by impact of hitting a speed bump too fast or something. Just so I know….is this standard and covered under warranty with most car manufacturer?
As I recall, a few years ago my friend had something like this happen with his Mercedes and I remember they most certainly did NOT fix it for free. Is this the norm now?
Oh, I didn’t realize the panel coming off was from a speed bump. But usually if it’s a matter of something just coming loose, then yes dealers should typically just take the time to repair it. It costs them nothing to do, and they could bill it to the manufacturer… provided there isn’t evidence of a collision, which from the picture it didn’t appear to be.. Especially is a part that costs nothing to them. It’s a matter of haggling of a neglible part with you, or irritating you such that you take your business to the other dealership and leaving them with a less than stellar survey result..
CoronitaParticipantProbably not representative of everyone, since I guess people who posted here are the ones that got screwed. But it’s just interesting to see…
CoronitaParticipant
Maybe its just a coincidence but I noticed the SD home price and qcom stock chart look similar LOL.
I think Marvel (MRVL) is a better buy frankly at these prices. Well it was, at least right after those patent lawsuits from CMU when it was around $11/share…
Looks like KKR looking to take a 5% stake in the company recently.
They also crushed Q4 earnings estimates yesterday..
But what do I know…
