$100 total.
No way anyone is going to strip your door for that little.
And if you change your mind and want to paint the other side, the first 4 items you will already have.
CoronitaParticipantAnd if you really want to DIY it, and it’s just latex paint, it’s pretty easy to strip.
Buy a cheap heatgun from harbor freight for like $15 and a metal large scraper, and cook the paint until it wrinkles and just scrape it with a metal scraper… Any residue, follow up with a good paint remover solvent from home depot Klean-Strip Premium Paint Stripper or something like that. Just don’t cook the paint until the wood starts smoking or burning, you might warp the door.
CoronitaParticipantPlus, are you really going to spend time taking the front door off, put it into a car, transport it somewhere for them to strip it, bring it back to your place.. And meanwhile, you just have your house wide open without a front door while someone is working on it (unless you have a steel security screen front door too)…
CoronitaParticipantjust pay a handyman to repaint your door. If you’re not willing to strip it yourself, you’re not really going to save much money DIY painting it. There’s an old saying that painting anything (particularly automotive painting) is about 4x effort to prep, and 1x effort to paint. The better you prep, the better the outcome is. The stripping/sanding/filling etc is the hard part. Putting paint on the surface is the easy part.

If you did sell and not worry about paying taxes and the stock kept moving up, you’d be saying, I wish I didn’t sell.
And if you don’t sell, and it goes down, you’ll wish you sold.
We all paint ourselves into corner, that game show “You Can’t Win” lol.
We might be right a few times, because of luck

I split the cash holding roughly 50/50 between a basket of CDs FDIC insured well below the limit, and a investments into Schwab Money Funds, which all have a 1 day turnaround to cash.
The CD’s have varying terms, mostly 3 or 6 months, some are 1 month and some are 1 year. Anything longer than 3 month, I picked the CD that pays out monthly, instead of at maturity, even if the rate is slightly lower than ones that pay out at maturity.

I ended up selling FRC, DPST,and SCHW. Because I forgot I needed to fill up all my cars this month

Really tiny trade, but about 29% gain in one day, I’ll take it… Back to the Vegas tables…, lol.
March 13, 2023 at 10:24 AM in reply to: Money markets at Schwab now above 4%, tax-free muni now above 3% #902031CoronitaParticipantNo, it was a pretty stupid thing to do. But then again, I never claimed financial intelligence in my decisions. I just know that I suck at Vegas.
March 13, 2023 at 8:07 AM in reply to: Money markets at Schwab now above 4%, tax-free muni now above 3% #902028CoronitaParticipantI bought Schwab SCHW, First Republic (FRC), and DPST etf this morning.
Because I don’t feel like going to Vegas to gamble, heh heh.

And if you plan on selling some of your money funds to buy CDs through schwab, just be aware that when you buy a CD through schwab, the CD is only actually purchased at the listed settlement date, and you cash will be held as part of the cash sweep feature of your brokerage account until the settlement date.
