CoronitaParticipantFLU: We bought a mini-van for the family. Maybe it doesn't have the safety you are looking for but the design makes perfect sense, the large sliding doors on both sides especially. Maybe there is an SUV with sliding doors? I imagine we would have dinged 50 cars if it were not for the sliding doors. 3 kids can sit on one bench so we have room for grammy an pop pop. We remove one bench for trips and have lots of room for stuff. Disclaimer: Mine is not for sale.
If you don't mind me asking, what brand did you buy? I'm considering them because it's generally a larger car with practicality. I'm not thrilled about gas mileage, but the larger size is a definite plus. Is it one of the usual suspects (Sienna, oddysey, Caravan?)
I'm trying to compare the crash test results from IIHS.

Most of them do pretty well on frontal impact. But seems like minivans aren't quite tested yet for side impact or rear, except the oddysey. The oddysey is slightly pricey imho.

CoronitaParticipantfat_lazy_union, is your last name Jones or are you just trying to keep up? As to plasma TV's, they are a set piece like granite counter tops. I suppose people pick on them because thats the biggest size that is widely available. Plasma TV's came on the market en masse at just about the time the RE bubble really started blowing up. Its no suprise that people associate them with excess. I sincerely doubt its envy.
Yes, I want to keep up with the 100% financed, credit card debt ridden Jones down the street.. Um no..The Jones are in the poor house. If I were to keep up with anyone, it would be with the Kim's or Wong's down the street :).
Actually, the real issue is I don't want to be in a Toyota Prius/Corolla/civic/accord/camry when a Cadillac Escalade ESV/H2 driven by a soccer mom/dad talking on the cell phone slams into me with a kid in the car. on the 5/805/56/15.
The CA DMV should create a new license type for these large trucks/SUV (like a class C-2). You should have to go through extra training to have the privilege to drive these things. They dynamics/braking/handling are much different from regular cars. And the too many ignorant people drive these SUVs like cars.

CoronitaParticipantIt’s not that 60″ plasmas are bad by themselves. But in most of the ones I’ve seen placed in homes, it doesn’t belong there. Why? Way too short of a viewing distance.
I regularly see these 60″ plasmas in newer tract attached homes…The way these newer track homes are built, it appears there’s about 7-8 feet from the TV to where you’re sitting. Putting a 60″ plasma tv at this distance is ridiculous. Folks that are into A/V know this, while the bigger is better mentalily is another story. The same would be said about buying a high end surround sound system when your room is just not “right”.
As far as range rovers. Nice ,but not the most reliable. Personally don’t have any issues with folks that drive them….At least it’s not a escalade with the bling bling wheels or an H2. I hate those things.
Speaking of which. I decided to buy a larger car/SUV. Not that I really want to, it seems everyone is buying bigger and bigger cars, and I feel know with a kid, driving a sedan isn’t the safest thing anymore. Probably get something decent like a toyota or honda.

CoronitaParticipantUmmm….Last time I checked. All were sold out, partly because there really is a demand, and partly because DH seems to be doing a good job controlly inventory releases. ….there sstill a waitlist even today. The only time when DH came down in price was in Jan/Feb of this year, when people first started to freak about housing decline. A few people who were trading up but couldn’t otherwise but had a tough time selling their old place couldn’t close, and lost their deposits. As such a few highly upgraded plan 2’s were selling about $1.09 million, fully upgraded with a few other incentives. There were about 4 units. It lasted for about 1.5 months.
I have 5 friends waiting on the wait list for the last phases around the cul-de-sac. I’m not going to try to talk them out of buying a home, because let’s just say as stupid as we may think they are, they don’t exactly live under the constraints that I would say most people do, as they are either a VP/director for a wireless telco company and/or started a startup in the wireless industry.
The $1.3+ million units you’re referring to are the plan 3, and include the optional attic extension. The other ones run around $1.1-$1.2, which is roughly inline with other homes in CV of equal size/shape.
As far as a sub-million DH unit. Probably unlikely in 1-2 years. If you also had time to check out Saratoga, you’ll notice that those are sold out except Saratoga at the ridge.
And even Carriage Run is sold pretty well, which I couldn’t understand because folks paid about $800-$850 for a 2200sqft place.Personally, I’m not a fan of Pardee Homes ,but oh well seems like buyers are still plenty. Resale on the other hand isn’t doing so hot….

CoronitaParticipantI bought two of them, one for each hand. Seriously, I waiting in line for three hours on Friday and bought one for a friend, and one for me. Worth every penny and minute in line. It's truly a revolutionary device. As usual, Apple has done it better than the competition, in design and function. I bought one of the first iPods when it came out. People thought I was crazy to spend $300 on an MP3 player. I simply replied, if you want the best you have to pay extra, just like most things in life. Doesn't it cost more to live on the coast versus living in Temecula? Sure it does. Don't under estimate the iPhone and the genius of Steve Jobs. And I wouldn't be selling your AAPL stock yet. Wait until next month when earnings come out and they probably announce a stock split.
Ever heard of the phrase. Buy on rumor, sell on news? One thing that I have learned is that you can take a great company, that has great earnings, and it still sinks the stocks, because it wasn't "good enough". My gut is telling me that expectations are way too high going into earnings, and all short term wabbits that apple has seems to have been pulled out of the hat recently. So short or any new product announcements are a blowout quarter, I'm not feeling like we're going to see that much more room to move upward. But who knows. Well, considering that apple is 3x above what I paid, at this point I think I'm done. It's been a fun ride up. Time to load up on something that is a dog. Maybe I'll double down on Intel and Symantec right now. Oh yeah, forgot some of this has to go into the RS6 slush fund 🙂

CoronitaParticipantRead in USA Today that some people were disappointed that they couldn't get iPhone because of a lack of coverage. These are young people, college students, who want this $499/$599 + $59.99/month for 2 years. No wonder they are deep in debt when they graduate. So any piggingtonian getting iPhone? Maybe one day when Apple fails to excite, we know that consumer is guarding its wallet…
Nope. Got to save up because I "need" that Audi RS6 due out next year. Screw the Jones down the street. They’re broke. I need to compete with the Kim's down the street 🙂 Just kidding.
Seriously though. Seems like the the concept of "needs" versus "wants" seems to has escaped a few folks. I can't complain though, because my apple stock is 3x above want I bought a few years ago. Time to sell though.

CoronitaParticipantFLU – You presented your latest post of this thread with the implied ethos that you are the opposite of your lazy, fat fvck ex-coworker. But, and forgive me for asking this, how did you know so much detail about how he spent his work days while you were supposed to be hard at work yourself? Isn't that like the stove calling the kettle black?
1. The way we were sitting in one room, it was like a classroom. I sat right behind him and could see exactly what he was doing, when he got in, when he left, when he was playing solitaire, when he was surfing, when he was blogging, when he waa actually working (which wasn’t that much). Ironically, the group leader sat right behind me and could see everyone as well. I was running a project, and unfortunately depended on him. Pretty soon, it was just more efficient not to include him in any discussions, because anything that came out of his mouth was just B.S. So as the project owner, I also know what he did (or I should say what little he did). Also, although I didn’t go that far, I’m sure the I.T. logs for his machines would show that most his time was spent not working. In fact most companies that I worked at have network logs that details exactly what each employee does/doesn’t do. No one really looks at them, unless you get into a legal issues, or want to fire someone with some reasons.
2. As far as myself
I get my sh!t done.3. I'm pretty proactive about running projects
4. If I was in a position to, I would have fired that coworker. Unfortunately, I couldn't. But fortunately, others are looking at it now.
5. While I don't expect people to work like slaves, and everyone spends some time at work doing non-work stuff, folks like this coworker deserve to loose their jobs and struggle to get back to reality. He literally gets nothing done, and pretty much blames everyone but himself as to why. Epitome of a lot of lazy asses I've run across in my career. No work ethics frankly.
6. I no longer work for that company because I hate being surrounded by lazy people such as him. And my understanding is that those that are left at that company pretty much are useless elsewhere (except the ones on H1-B's which are there because they have to be there).
