CoronitaParticipantI never minded the insults from the naively foolish Bulls who pushed their optimism upon everyone here, even as the markets walked up to the edge of the cliff
And I never minded the ranting posts from those so slow of mind that their only strategy is a non-strategy of buy-and-hold, the Non-Thinking Man's Position.
I didn't mind because I had faith in the obvious and the inevitable: the markets habit of inflicting righteous justice upon the blind optimists, the idiots, and the amateurs.
Then came Oct '07 and the inevitable began: the markets' Descent into Hell.
I started building short positions last year and I kept adding, so when Oct '07 came I was fully short the market, with LEVERAGE, and with a vengeance.
I bought 2X inverse index funds
I bought a huge amount of PUTS on the S&P500 and NASDAQ
I sold stocks short
I bought gold
I sold the oil & gas index short, with leverageThen I waited.
Then the market fell about 18% in a matter of months. Gold soared. The oil and gas stocks tanked
Then I laughed all the way to the bank.
🙂I'm still laughing, and enjoying the ride.
Go ahead.
Post your flaming rants.
I won't return to this thread to read them.I call B.S. on that one. You will return, you read the comments. Anything you don't agree with, you won't post, but you'll wait for one day the markets are moving in the direction that you're currently positioned, then you'll come out posting like your a genius, and that everyone else around you is a moron. You need your daily affirmation that you're smart, you never make the wrong decision, and that everyone else around you is an utter moron and you never make mistakes. BTW: I recall you mentioning you went inverse on oil and gas the day oil was $85/barrel. And it never went below $85/barrel from that day till now where it's $100+/barrel. So how you could have profitted on that transaction would be beyond me. But go ahead, quit your full time job, and be a real trader, provide investment advice, and let lemmings follow you…..:) Just kidding.

CoronitaParticipantWell, frankly I don't know Murrieta to comment. BUT, it's for this reason why I thought (and still think) buying in Otay Mesa is an equally bad idea for the same reason.
Whenever something else is "out of place" with the surrounding neighborhood, it just seems like it would have a target painted on it, unless you have a serious police force to do serious patrolling. In the Bay Area, this is particularly effective in dealing with the East PaloAlto and Palo Alto, Mountain View thing. Once upon a time, crime that typically was confined to east palo alto started to increase in surrounding areas like PA, MV, Sunnyvale.. Then the police from those jurisdiction started to band together and started doing some hard core crackdown, the sort of "you mess with our city, we're gonna get you and you'll regret it". It seemed to have worked. While E. Palo Alto might have one the highest crime rates in CA, the rest of the surrounding is pretty safe (or at least I feel it's pretty safe).
The problem with some of these new higher-end "ranches" like Otay Mesa for example, is that they really should have been placed as a city with it's own full size police force. You might not like the copper that writes you a ticket here and there, but if that's all a copper needs to do in a city because he/she is bored, that's a good thing imho.

CoronitaParticipantTranslation of the proposal:
"In an effort to minimize you getting stabbed, carjacked, shot, pimped, doped, kidnapped, hit with unknown DUIs, robbed, burglarized, vandalized, we decided to hire a rent-a-cop to report such incidence to police as they happen, because most likely he won't be carrying a gun to handle any real situation. BUT, we decided to give him internet access in the man-booth so he can spend most of his time surfing porn while he should be watching the monitors. BTW, your cost will be $26/household/month (for now…and don't count on it staying this low). Pay up, especially if you're trying to sell your home and don't want your property value to fall even lower than what it currently is."
I'm not an expert about Murrieta, but I would say this probably isn't representative of the entire area.

March 20, 2008 at 11:54 PM in reply to: HELP! Landlord asking if we want to buy our rental as “short sale” #174125
CoronitaParticipant dharmagirl,
I was being a half smart ass when i wrote my comment. But in all seriousness, you might want to rent a small safety deposit box at a bank to keep any and all small precious things such as jewelry, charms, collectibles etc "just in case". A landlord most likely always has a key, and I would definitely be concerned if my landlord was deeply upside-down and gets desperate, if you know what i mean.Â
