ParticipantWhat was the phrase… In God we Trust, all others bring data? I am too lazy to use the search engine.
mgu have you spent much time reading about the fraudulent activity on the bubble tracker? In many neighborhoods “especially Murrieta, home of the giant scam” many houses probably base comps on all the sham sales that went on. This falsely inflated the market with comps out of line with the local economy. If they scamsters added 140K to the sale, and the neighbor (Joe Zinfandel err Joe 6-pack) now think their home is also the same value, who is to say they really lost 140K. Well perhaps put in a better light, the 140K they thought they gained was not due to market forces. Remember many of the nurses in the Murrieta scam had multiple homes, so it’s less hard to feel sorry for them.
Also, as an individual investor, if you want to get into the stock market on margin you have to put a little skin in the game. In housing you show up with nothing down, state your income, and wind up with an 800K loan.

ParticipantHey that could just as well be a batting cage. I have one of those, (12X12X12 net draped over PVC) but couldn’t get the PVC to hold up so I took it down. I lovingly called it my redneck batting cage.

ParticipantBobbie Dooley…
Lloyd Bonafide. Oh one guy I loved who was always the expert on gay issues, Doug Dannger, a gay man and a gay journalist. That guy used to kill me, announcing his gayness at the beginning of every statement. Meanwhile the caller who is clearly upset about something Doug said having “nothing to do” with gayness, gets ticked.
Oh Rudy, the latin guy, who does the La-La-La. Hendrie was bold, I remember once Rudy was supposedly a “GOP consultant”, who started talking about his prowess with the la-la-la. An Angry black woman calls in and he says, she is bitter because her man probably doesn’t do the la-la-la…. (old military joke was you’d lose your brother card).
I about crashed my car one night in WV between Ohio and Raleigh when Bobbie (and Steve) had an 8th grade graduation party, and only allowed the kids to have “sex” if it was in the open. Also Steve jumping out of the hot tub naked, waist down to announce “the cobra is out of the cage”. Hey they were hip parents, and it was all fun. MMMMMM-HMMMMMMM, MMMMMM-HMMMMMM.
Other than that I like Savage once in a while and coast to coast on late night trips.

ParticipantI might take coastal cali over dallas/houston/RDU, but that’s assuming I continue to live near the coast. Otherwise if choosing between Murrieta or Texas, it would be Texas all the way.

ParticipantIf this is the only blog you read I understand how you might think this is sexist talk. However at Ben Jones site you cannot ignore the consistent anecdotal stories that come through regarding the theme.
Hell Century 21 capitalized.
One of the most logical “chick” posters (I say chick because it’s her handle) over there at Ben’s site is constantly bashing her own sex because she sees this mentality.
I don’t think anyone is trying to say that “all women” act in this manner.
By the way there are probably just as many simpleton “dudes” who think RE only goes up.

ParticipantPerry and I probably could not be more different politically speaking, but he is correct, and this is not some wild stretch.
Anyone who has followed Ben’s blog with any regularity knows that what Perry posted is an ongoing theme over there. Anecdotal story after anecdotal story, about big dumb lug, who can’t say no the wife. In my 16 years of marriage (started at 22), my wife wins most every battle, because, frankly, I just don’t care about that much.
However I had to basically tell her a few times to “sit down and shut up” as regards her nesting instinct. (We moved here two years ago).
Now when I say “sit down and shut up” I don’t mean it literally, as she’d probably kick my ass. (she does crossfit with some navy seal dude). What I meant was a continual education process about just how stupid a mistake it would be to purchase, and eventually she trusted my stubborness.
She also sees the emotional side of a home more than I though many on this site do not fit that stereotype. We had to eat about 9K when I sold my house in Ohio (Nov. 2005) and at closing I had to sell some stock to pay the note. I was hoping to hold onto that stock for the long term but it was the only non retirement account investment that I had.
I hurt her feelings by saying something along the lines of “buying that house was the absolute stupidest thing I have ever done”. Of course I loved that house too, but I was just bitter about losing my only real asset. She saw it as her dream home (still pissed at me for moving us out here), where the kids had so many great memories, and in the case of our youngest it’s the only other home he remembers outside of the crapbox we rent now.
