ParticipantA chain we used to hit in the midwest was Aldi’s. They had a lot of basic items for lower prices than anyone around. For instance certain boxed goods, canned goods, snacks, cheese, eggs, milk, and you could also get spinach, broccoli, etc. They had a very limited inventory, and it seemed to work well for them. Many people looked down their nose at them and wouldn’t be caught dead in Aldi’s. However for a lot of basic shopping needs it was a great store.

ParticipantI am not a risk-taker as it pertains to food. So the fact that my wife has at least gotten me out of meat-potatoes to try some places is a mini-miracle. There is a little Thai place where we eat regularly down in Solana Beach on the 101 called Bangkok Bay. I am not a connoisseur of Thai food and basically I get the same thing on each visit. I really enjoy it, I get order the stuff 8 of 10 on a hot scale. It’s called Kow Soi Noodles in a spicy curry broth (with beef) a northern Thai specialty. Whatever it is I like it, and always order a couple of Singha’s to cool the palette.
PF Changs (only attend on company business) or any Chinese-American restaurant I generally order some version of spicy (General Tso’s) chicken. I’m not much a veggie guy, and I hate wasting money on something I might not like. I can’t imagine this spicy chicken is very authentic, but I am not an expert on these things.
