ParticipantAre the (400+?) apt. units just off Carmel Mtn. exit of I-15 still Section 8? They were in the 80’s, early 90’s. Don’t know about now.
Is this cul-de-sac high up? From the map, looks like if it is, you will hear the constant hum of rubber from the fwy., day and night, unless it has double-paned windows and they are closed all year round.
andymajumder, this is NOT that big a house. Why the HUGE asking price?? Guess I’m clueless what the “draw” is here.

Participant
Just curious, doesn’t Torrey Pines H.S. has a big drug problem?
Don’t know about Torrey Pines, but Coronado HS apparently does. I know interdistrict transfers whose parents have pulled them out and put them back in their area schools because of this. The consensus around here is that the kids at Coronado HS have too much $$ and time on their hands (very few youth jobs over there) and too little sense.
Must be due to children of military personnel (in Navy [Officer?] housing). The average homeowner age over there is 67 – LOL.

Participantsvelte, I totally agree that the hype about HS “test scores” is BS and not telling the whole story. Most Sweetwater schools (SUHSD) get an (undeserved) bad rap by out-of-area folks, too, even being called “ghetto.”
I have neighbors and friends with kids who graduated from Hilltop, Bonita Vista, Sweetwater and Chula Vista High Schools, whose kids are either students or graduates of UCSD, UCLA, UCB, UC Davis, Cal-Poly, Stanford, etc. Some have advanced degrees and two are currently doctoral candidates.
If buyers want to pay out the nose for MR, HOA and poss. $200K+ more for a flimsily-built house with a tiny lot in a “bedroom” fire-prone area (A/C needed) because they think it is in a better “school-attendance area,” then more power to them. I’ll stay close-in and use my 2.5 tanks of gas per month and spend others’ “commuting-time” at the Y.
I’ll say it again, IMO success in school has everything to do with the kid and his/her family and almost NOTHING to do with the school. ALL PUBLIC HIGH SCHOOLS IN CA MUST FOLLOW THE SAME CURRICULUM IN ORDER TO GRADUATE SENIORS. [end of rant]

Participantflu, you sound like a geek extraordinaire but I just wanted to comment on your Western Digital device for $150. I’ve never seen anything like it and it looks very interesting, IMO.
