You’re telling this to someone who have been building his own computer for over a decade. Yes, I’m aware of keeping fan clean and I’m also aware of the latitude E6400 overheating issue. It’s well documented on the net. I haven’t needed to cull the registry for a long time. Maybe because I don’t do a lot of install of junk apps anymore. My computer have the MS dev suite, ms office, android dev suite, and adore suite. It’s when you do a lot of install and uninstall that make your registry a mess. Before, when that happen, I just format and reinstall everything. That does a better job than culling registry.an
Participant
AN. I would have to disagree with you somewhat.
When Thinkpads were still owned by IBM, yes I thought they were rock solid…But ever since Lenovo took over, the brief Lenovo laptops I used weren’t really reliable.I think by far the most reliable solid laptops I’ve used were Sony Vaio …
I use to think Dell was junk…But their quality has gotten better imho…
I really liked the Panasonic toughbook concept…
http://www.panasonic.com/business/toughbook/fully-rugged-laptop.asp%5B/quote%5D
I don’t have any Lenovo Thinkpad, so I can’t attest to their quality. But I did read from a couple of different sources that they’ve maintained if not improved on IBM’s quality.Did you use the Lenovo Thinkpad or their other line? My brother got their Ideapad, because it’s cheaper, but it’s definitely wasn’t to the same quality as the Thinkpad.
I’m currently using the Dell Latitude E6400 and the quality is pretty so-so. The paint is chipping and the laptop itself overheats.
The Toughbook is definitely tough, but it’s too bulky for my taste.

Participant
The real question is, why should the government recognize marriage at all? All these tax savings make no sense to me.
What tax savings are you referring to? AFAIK, there’s a marriage tax penalty, but I never heard of a tax saving. info on Marriage Penalty. You can also go here and try 2 scenarios, 1 is 2 single people making $100k each and then do another one where a married couple make $200k combine. Then tell me which couple pay more?May 11, 2012 at 11:30 PM in reply to: OT – Gay Marriage. Divisive or Non-Issue? Evolution or Intelligent Design? #743652an
Participant
Are you volunteering to pay for the special education and all the medical bills of children born of incest??
see: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Consanguinity%5B/quote%5D
How’s this any different than women having children late and increase the risk of her baby getting down syndrome? How’s this any different than this. How’s this any different than this. How’s this any different than people eating themselves to obesity and having a lot of medical bills. How’s this any different than people with AIDS/HIV having kids. There’s a high chance they’ll pass it on to their kids as well. I’m sure people who have AIDS/HIV also have a lot of medical bills too. How’s this any different than people who are doing a lot of sun tanning? Their likelihood of having Skin cancer increases which will also increase their medical bills too. I can go on, but you get the point. I’m paying for all of that now, so, sure, I’ll pay for this too.May 11, 2012 at 10:24 PM in reply to: OT – Gay Marriage. Divisive or Non-Issue? Participant
I will not be taking advantage of legalized gay marriage, but I have no objections.
I also have no plans to practice polygamy or incest, but I would not object to either. If consenting adults want to consider themselves married I say let them, regardless of their number, sexual orientation or their common ancestors.
[EDIT]
Dr. P approves.
+1. Why just gay marriage? Why not open up marriage to all? Including polygamy, incest, and bi-sexual relationships. As long as they’re all consenting adults, they all should be legal.I’d like to know how many people who support gay marriage also support polygamy? I’ll go first… I do.

Didn’t you rail against “bankers”?May 11, 2012 at 11:48 AM in reply to: More public pension loony tunes – now Providence RI is in trouble #743577an
Participant
So much for Piggs wanting to apply for these “cushy” jobs . . . I don’t see any “takers” yet …
What does desire to apply to public union jobs have anything to do with the debate at hand. Which is about the pension. That’s like saying, why don’t you apply to be a CEO of BAC. If you don’t want to or can’t get it, does that mean his current compensation is justified?May 11, 2012 at 9:00 AM in reply to: OT: For all you investment gurus…Look on the bright side…You couldn’t possibly have done worse than JPMorgan/Chase :) #743563an

Funny that you’re getting rid of your longs today. I actually sold all my short and going long. After that JPM’s news and the market didn’t tank like I expect it to, so my guess is there’s a pretty decent support at this level.May 11, 2012 at 12:06 AM in reply to: OT: For all you investment gurus…Look on the bright side…You couldn’t possibly have done worse than JPMorgan/Chase :) #743547an
Participant
I don’t know. But I was looking AH, and something that concerns me.
1. Asian markets are not tanking. You think if this was a big deal, they would be reacting…
http://finance.yahoo.com/q?s=^n225
2. And it seems like the futures are showing less than 1% loss…
http://www.bloomberg.com/markets/stocks/futures/I smell a rat…Ah, who knows… Tomorrow will be interesting…
The Nikkei isn’t tanking, only down 0.6%, but the Hang Seng is. Currently down 1.34%. European and American Indexes futures are down around .6-.8% so far. We’ll see how the day play out.Update: European Index are down between .9% (CAC) and 1.5% (IBEX).

I never stated that BVHS’s or TPHS’s students who were categorized “Hispanic” weren’t actually “Hispanic” and you never answered my question, which was:Why do you think “Hispanics” at BVHS (API 851) scored 81 points higher on their state exams than “Hispanic” students at TPHS (API 882)?
(826 BVHS Hispanic score minus 745 TPHS Hispanic score.)
I told you I don’t know, that’s why I ask you, since you seem to know the Hispanic community a lot better than I do.
AN, Compare MMHS (area you’re familiar with) with an API of 846 and a “Hispanic” score of 781. Is MMHS’s 846 score anything to “crow about?” What about BVHS’s 851 score? Why did students in the “Hispanic” group do MUCH better on their state exams at BVHS?These are only examples. I could give a few more here but am using these random schools to make a point. I have nothing against MMHS or TPHS and I’m sure they’re both good schools.
No, neither 846 NOR 851 is anything to crow about. Why are you bringing up school wide API numbers anyways, when we’re specifically talking about racial subgroup. The Asian in MM are on the lower performing side at 895 and the Asian in BVHS is at 933. Both are blown away by TPHS’s Asian at 956.
Hispanics who live in homes where English is the first language spoken do just as well as other student groups on their state tests. It is mostly Hispanics where English is NOT their primary language and/or who live in homes where a language other than English is spoken who drag the scores down for the entire group. It has everything to do with language barriers and the ability to comprehend and compose the written word.
Do you have data to back this up? The English learners in BVHS API is 781. Aren’t most of them Hispanic English learners? If yes, then why are Hispanic English learning in BVHS doing as well as Hispanic non-English learner in MMHS AND BEAT Hispanic in TPHS. -
