ParticipantRunners seem self-absorbed. Bikers are nice to other bikers. I told my kids it’s rude not to acknowledge a fellow biker, and now they try to annoy every person riding a bicycle.

ParticipantMost contractors will have an idea what should happen first even if they are not GC’s – the flooring guy will tell you if you should replace the toilet before or after you redo the tiles. They usually can recommend specialists that you need.
It might not be easy getting people to show up. I saw a ‘now hiring’ sign asking for drywallers with no experience and just a year ago you could hire an experienced drywaller for $12/hour. GC can help with that, but it will cost you.
If you talk to the planning department they will say you need a permit. So don’t ask.

Participant
In many ways it is — (as weird as it seems) people seem to be a lot less suspicious, yet honest, here than in SoCal. I’ve never been told that I couldn’t view a property without my own broker present (for safety reasons) on the East Coast, for example.
Not to mention that we’re not freaked out by random street conversations. People in some parts of SoCal are so tied to the car/cell phone/work/home cycle and their own personal bubble that they’ve totally forgotten how to hold a conversation with a stranger.
Until you take your kid to a park. There is always some other parent or grandparent ready to pounce. Just this morning I listened for 15 minutes on how lazy the youth in Ireland has become.all
ParticipantDeMaio lied about easily verifiable things and refused to retract when confronted. And that happened several times. He looked like a man with a big ax(e) to grind. I might be a moron, but I don’t like to be treated as such.

Participant
I have to admit, I was very unhappy about my situation in Temecula during and following the crash. I viewed myself as a responsible buyer, I put a relatively large amount of money down on my house and at least on paper lost it all.
I’m not a RSF phony and 40-50k is a lot of money for me to lose.
I’ve doubled down since then, I’m just now recovering from the crash, and I don’t won’t some johnny-come-lately troll derailing any recovery.

I’ve lived in a lot of different places around the country including san Diego, and Temecula has been the best value by far.
Temecula: So Cal weather, Texas Prices.
So you are not genuine Temeculerian, you are simply astroturfing? You should just shut up and let the 6packer do the talking – he sounds like a guy I would love to have as my neighbor. You sound like a guy who will call people ‘phony’ just because they are better off financially. Don’t stress so much, life is finite. What you giveth is what you geteth.

Get roomba at Costco. It won’t mop, but it will get off the charging station, sweep and go back.
Do you have one? Does it transition well/at all between tile and carpet?
We got one about four years ago. Replaced the battery about a year ago (~$50). Unlike SK we are happy with the results – the wife would likely pick roomba if she had to chose between me and the machine. There is a mop version, but the reviews were not good so we did not get it. Most models have 4+ stars on Amazon and the Costco price was $100 better than the Amazon price.
We have 65% hardwood and 33% tile (2% carpet in one of the closets) and few area rugs. No pets.
If you feel nerdy – it can be hacked and it’s not hard – hackingroomba.com.

Participant

A recent study shows that an average Californian family need 981sf + 508sf/family member + 91sf/pet (not including garage space) before true happiness can be attained.
Is that for real? That would mean my family would have needed around 3200 sq feet. Seems big, at least for me. When my kids were still home, 1/2 the time was in 2400 sq ft, and half was in 3600. Smaller one was plenty of room, even had a room we rarely used, though it was a ranch, so it felt a lot bigger than a two-story with the same sq ft feels. The larger one was just a lot of wasted space where it wasn’t needed.
Ah, sorry. It was supposed to say ‘a recent made up study’.

ParticipantIt just feels that you can get more for the same amount of money in some other communities.
Why did you pick Del Sur over Stonebridge, San Elijo Hills or Carmel Mountain Ranch – school district, office location…?

Retorted Tesla: “If Edison had a needle to find in a haystack, he would proceed at once with the diligence of the bee to examine straw after straw until he found the object of his search. I was a sorry witness of such doings, knowing that a little theory and calculation would have saved him ninety percent of his labor.”
