I am just finishing up reading Peter Schiff’s book : Crash Proof and started thinking about how to invest outside US, especially in EU to diverse my investment portfolio. So, I started looking offshore banks, but there are too many and I cannot tell which one is the best and the safest since many banks started falling even Swiss banks. I thought HSBC might be good one, but I would like to ask experts here before I make my move. My concerns to HSBC is that it has heavy exposure to subprime mortgage [like many others] and has been reporting many losses for a past few years.
Q1. which offshore banks are good or best and how can I know if it is good or bad. FDIC has a bank rating site, but it does not cover many banks outside US.
Q2. Is it better to use a broker like Euro Pacific instead of investing by myself? We have hired one financial adviser for about 10 years, but she (like many others) did not foresee this market collapse and also does not have much resources outside US.
