This is not about opaqueness. It’s about overt and transparent discrimination. I’m pretty sure if a private company say, we take race into consideration when we’re hiring, they will be sued until they will no longer do that.
You have a lot of faith in the private sector,
In the private sector, nobody would say that anything is based on race.. but they would said things like “team player”, “deals better with customers”, “better communications skills”, etc…
In the public sector, the rules and procedures are more likely to be written down and documented. That’s why the UC admits more on pure academic merit then the Ivy league.
Notice that I never defended race based admissions. All I’m saying is that merit can be more than academic record.

I’m talking about overt discrimination. Last I check, I don’t see any company that came out and state they take race into consideration when hiring.
I’m not against have other criterias for admission. What I’m against is the overt discrimination that deadzone seems to be OK with, which lead me to ask “Can we use the same logic in the private sector?”. I wasn’t responding to you, I was responding to deadzone.

I’m more concerned that our wacked politicians are simply deferring the issue, post election….You know, counting on the fact that with this “deferred”, they can try a run at it again after elections… making the big assumption/gamble that asians won’t turn out to vote out these jerks out of office……Which you can interpret to be the most insulting thing, thinking they can try to kick around this issue again…
Afterall, they aren’t “killing” it… Hernandez simply mentioned it would be back for reconsideration in 2016…
In other words, we have work to do to make sure it can’t possibly come up again in the state senate….I think this is where it’s time to throw money at the problem and time and resources…. And make sure it’s DOA…
Really happy silicon valley is just as stirred up about this… because that’s where I think possibly we can get a lot of traction from some heavyweights.
dude, after this thing, for ALL Califonia elections I’m voting Republican ONLY. The CA Democratic party has lost my vote.

What’s really amazing to me isn’t just the fact that Hernandez’s camped backed this..
…Nor is it that the CA senate completely passed it…
What is really amazing to me is that despite the backlash against this, that Hernandez’s camp isn’t even planning on killing this, but he’s going to try to push this through in 2016 again…
If you are asian, at this point you have to be completely idiotic to think keeping the status quo in the state senate would be anything but a complete disaster….
So the next exercise would be to figure out which state senators are at risk in the swing area correlated with the relative population of AA… and well, you know how politics works…
I’m predicting Ted Lieu will lose his seat over this… Good…

Here comes another shakedown …
I would like to ask Jesse Jackson if he would also push for Asians’ inadequately represented in the NBA/NFL/MLB as well. I wouldn’t mind being a bench warmer in the NBA.

Nice! I wonder why anyone hasn’t caught up with the fact that Asian American female’s life expectancy is 10 years longer than that of African American male. As the logic from deadzone goes, the healthcare system is now supported primarily by tax payers, so we should start enforce life expectancy quota with Obamacare.
It wouldn’t be fair otherwise, would it?
March 19, 2014 at 9:37 AM #772078carlsbadworkerParticipantBy the way, I am not saying that we shouldn’t help kids from poor family. But I just don’t see why we have to use race (out of so many other criteria that we could use) to help some of the poor kids out there.

I’m not too worried about Jesse Jackson. Personally i think he should work on making sure his son doesn’t stay in jail for corruption….
Like father, like son….But it does sound enough people are fed up with things, doesn’t it? Seems like things have finally started to backfire…
Anyway, need to do some research on who’s vulnerable in our state senate…heh heh….

Poor kids tends to go to bad schools. It’s much easier to be in the top 5-10% in the bad school. I forget the exact % but if you’re in the top 5-10%, you’re guarantee to 1 UC. So, they already have 1 leg up than richer kids. If you have a 3.3 or 3.5 GPA, you’re guarantee in CSU if I’m not mistaken. It’s probably easier to get that GPA in a poor performing school with lower level of competition than the better schools.

Well, if we pass NBA-5 or NCAA-5, then we’ll need to fill asians quota until they score 5% of the total points per game, caucasians need to fill quotas so that they can make up 70% of the total score…However, we’ll need to quota limit the total points african americans can score to 13%. We’ll probably need to include some “other races” too in the mix..

I’ll settle for being just the bench warmer. NBA’s bench warmer rookie are making $490,180 and if you’re 10+ years in the league, your salary minimum is $1,399,507. I would totally settle for that. You get court side seat at the game and you get to mingle w/ the stars. After 10-15 years, I can totally retire.March 19, 2014 at 9:55 AM #772087CoronitaParticipantYou just had to quote me on the my typos didn’t you? (too lazy to correct them now on the demographic breakdown)…
AN, you have much to learn how our politicians work….
You wouldn’t be making $490k…After all, let’s not forget you’re asian…And “too many of you” make too much money, so I’m sure there would be an “Income-5” rule and only 13% of asians would be qualified to make $490k/year salary….
