GuestFunny that you should mention Warren Buffett and his insurance business.
While I love their cute little ads with the gecko lizards as much as anyone, Warren’s insurance business is just as corrupt as the worst of them.
If I recall correctly, (and I do,) GEICO was fined some record amount a few years back for insurance shenanigans. Not exactly the pillar of righteousness that you imply.
Scruples? Is that some type of sausage? Because it sure doesn’t have ANYTHING to do with the insurance industry, Warren Buffett or not.

ParticipantCompanies are willing to pay a lot for the right skills. I am an Engineer and pulling in 75K annually. For a while, I thought I make decent money and that salary.com is bs for saying I should be making around 90K. But one of my friend just got a 20% increase, from 92K to 110K. Another one from 70K to 100K, so a 25%-50% increase is not unheard of. This makes it very hard for me not to look for a new job.

Employers don’t want single managers that rent apartments with no responsibility that could be gone in two months, they want stability and maturity. That requires a salary that addresses the cost of living here in SD. We’ve seen an base increase of 35% in the last 3 years.

In general you are not going to get a 25% to 50% raise if you are staying within the company. They will try to nickel and dime you. “Oh, how about a nickel increase in your per hour?”. Hahahaha. If you have an actual job offer and an amount, then they might try to match it if they like you enough, but that’s about it.
That being said, I was able to get a 30% raise when I changed my job last year. My wife was about to get a 25% raise when she did the same.
