It’s okay, UCGal :=] If/when I “relocate” for retirement purposes, I will make sure I have cable/DSL internet access so I can occasionally contribute to this wonderful blog, even from a commune at the foot of Mt Shasta, lol ;=]

This summer will mark my 36th year as a “permanent” resident of SD County, all of it in metro SD spanning from Bankers Hill (92101) to SE SD to South County. In this time, I have watched this area grow from a strictly “branch office town” concentrated within a much smaller geographical footprint to what it is today with much of that time spent as a local government worker-bee “insider.”

I understand everything and have many friends/neighbors my age and older who were born here. If you are a “transplant” from another locale living and working in an area =<20 years old, you simply don't have this "historical perspective" at your disposal and there is no other way to get it. Without this and extensive ROAD travel (staying in private homes), a true and complete understanding of SD County's attributes in comparison with other locales would be next to impossible to properly ascertain, even from a local "carefully-situated" and "properly-sheltered" hotel.

This knowledge is what it is. It's only something you can learn from being on the ground in a particular place in a particular era. No matter what their level of education or occupation, a "native" or "near-native" resident has knowledge that newer residents with possibly more education can't possibly have. This can never be taken away from them.
