Buddhist philosophy says that you can find happiness from within, free of external conditions.
You can attain different levels of enlightenment.
I think that I’m at Bodhisattva level already. ;)
I’m gonna sell my house in town
And I’ll be there
To shine in your japan
To sparkle in your china
Yes I’ll be there
Bodhisattva”January 5, 2012 at 1:01 AM #735433CA renterParticipant

I always advise being happy independent of all other conditions.
\
That’s because your self-centered like so many other shallow southern californian’s.
Wow…
How can you find fault with finding happiness from within? It’s a lot harder to be a good spouse, a good parent, a good neighbor… if you are miserable and wallowing.
uh, life is not that simple – not to me anyway.
How are you finding that happiness “from within”?
Does your happiness come at the expense of someone else’s?
If not great…
IMHO, finding happiness “from within” means learning how to, quite literally, “count your blessings.” If you find contentment with what you have, especially if you really appreciate the most basic and simple things in life, you will find happiness.
It seemed to me that scaredy was pretty much making this very point. There was nothing shallow or self-centered in his comment.

Yes, this.
Being happy at the expense of others is not good. It’s also not independent of other conditions – which is what WW/Scaredy suggested.Being happy with what you have, who you are, how you live your life…. that can be very good.
It’s not about stuff, money, fame, whatever. It’s happiness from within. And that is not at the expense of others.
