    So, I just got a property tax delinquency notice in the mail. I had completely forgotten about it and didn’t pay by the 4/11 due date. The delinquency charge is about $350. The delinquent tax + charge is due 6/30.

    Does anyone have any experience, tips, or advice on how I can best negotiate to reduce or avoid this delinquency charge?
    I am planning to call them Monday and ask if I pay immediately that they reduce the charges somehow. Does anyone have experience of this?

    Note: I refinanced last year and that’s when I stopped having the bank accruing & paying my property taxes. I think I’ll call the bank and change that soon, too.

    Obviously you should not lie; and your payment didn’t get lost in the mail; has anyone Else had any success with validly blaming the agency for losing your check?

    if the penalty is excessively steep, should you still take responsibility? What if the punishment were five years in prison? should you take responsibility?
