April 23, 2012 at 3:19 PM #742039jstoeszParticipantIn keeping with the topic, I happened to be visiting my folks last week in Minneapolis, and I took these as the sun was going down two blocks from their place. This is my former neighborhood.
April 24, 2012 at 7:26 AM #742068NotCrankyParticipantParamount, That looks like a great event in Julian. It’s something to consider. Awesome picture too!
The harbor picture is great. I would not mind spending time around there at all. Minnesota, not so much eh? Just kidding, it looks nice.

April 30, 2012 at 10:23 PM #742523jstoeszParticipantbrawely or someplace around the salton sea perhaps?
April 30, 2012 at 10:29 PM #742524jstoeszParticipantDoes an hour away count as your neighborhood (not including skinning time of course)?
April 30, 2012 at 10:34 PM #742525paramountParticipantVery close…close enough for a win.
Congrats….what was the giveaway lol?
Calipatria. Pop. 8000
4000 of them are in prison though.
April 30, 2012 at 10:43 PM #742526jstoeszParticipanthaha, nice. I had always meant to go out there when I lived in SD. Never could convince the wife to drive a long ways and spend a day looking at old burnt out buildings in a wasteland. Something about it just looks really interesting to me.
April 30, 2012 at 11:09 PM #742527paramountParticipantI’m still working on putting a specific locale on your pic.
April 30, 2012 at 11:18 PM #742530jstoeszParticipantA simple wilderness area name will do.

jstoesz – What breed is your dog? He/She looks remarkably like our rescued pound dog. We’ve heard so many theories about the breed (obviously some huskie… but lots of other ideas tossed in.)That looks like Sierras to me. Inyo Nat’l forest? Kings Canyon area?
May 1, 2012 at 9:37 AM #742550AnonymousGuestIf I recall correctly, jstoesz moved to Placerville, so an hour away and in the mountains would put him in the South Lake Tahoe area.
My guess is Eldorado National Forest.
May 1, 2012 at 10:03 AM #742554jstoeszParticipantHe is a pound mutt from Helen Woodward animal center in rancho sante fe. They do a really great job rescuing and rehabbing them physiologically. Its a non-kill shelter, so I guess they have to. We are really not sure what breed he is. I am guessing he is some kind of Rough collie (long snout, tall and lanky, less dense long coat) and husky/malamute (defined markings). You have probably had this discussion as well. All I know is he is the best dog I have ever had, super mellow even when he was a puppy, can run for days in the mountains, and instinctively knows how not to hurt himself.
Did I mention Helen woodward is amazing?
The pic probably qualifies as my backyard (an hour away), in Desolation Wilderness (part of El Dorado NF) on the 4th of july last year. It was up from twin lakes on the way back from Lake aloha.
