OT. Obama or Mc Cain – New Thread

Ok, let’s start again because the other thread turned in a different direction.

How are you going to vote for? And why? The only two choices are effective Obama or McCain.

Like I said before, I’m voting my ideals rather than my fears and my pocket-book.

I think we all believe in the ideas of equity and social justice. This year, I’ll go back to the ideals of my youth and I’m voting for something new.

It it said that one becomes more and more conservative as one ages (to protect one’s own status quo) but it doesn’t have to be that way. Does it?

I have enough in life that I don’t care about accumulating more. I’d like to leave my kids with a better society.

I guess I am a conservative democrat, if that’s the appropriate term. I want to see better programs for those in need (e.g. homeless, mentally ill, pregnant teens) but I want that help to be reasonable so that it won’t hurt my pocket book too much. I don’t want to have to pay heavy taxes to fix everything wrong with society. I don’t want to see welfare mothers continuing to have babies so they can get their monthly welfare check. I don’t support gay rights, including gay marriage. I want our country to stay away from war if at all possible. I want to see a good national health care system in place. I want a university education to be free to all Americans. I don’t mind supporting government programs to help those who emigrate to this country, with the caveat that U.S. citizens are helped first and foremost.

To that end, I will vote for Obama. McCain will not make the changes to this country I’d like to see. He’s not a perfect choice, but as stated, I’m not a liberal democrat; I’m somewhere between the two political philosophies. For me, the ADDED BONUS will be that Obama shares my ethnicity. I view it as a bonus not because I’m racist, but because it’s high time we had a black president. I wouldn’t vote for him if I didn’t think he would be a good one.
