Thanks for responding. We will use the same mesh from Home Depot unless I can find the green one. 6″ below is what our landscaper is recommending as well. Professional company would use 4 ft mesh and bury it one foot below but that is probably overkill since the ground is so hard here, you would need a jack hammer.
The HD is always empty but Costco does seem to be just as crowded as the other ones, especially the gas station.
I haven’t seen scorpions yet either. The road runners are my favoraite. Never thought they were real and now I can see coyotes and road runners just like the cartoon.
Do you see the walking sticks and praying mantis as well? First time I saw those as well. Usually see them on the window screens.
October 26, 2012 at 12:40 PM #753241upwardspiralParticipantI agree, the Costco gas station is ridiculously busy, but I find the store itself to be much less crowded than PB or Mission Valley.
Love the roadrunners, though they are much smaller than I expected. The cartoon always made the roadrunner and the coyote the same size.
I have seen a couple of praying mantis, but no walking sticks. We do see alot of very large grasshopers in our yard and a small frog lives in our sons outdoor toybox. The toybox lid is always open and that frog has been sleeping in there for almost 6 months. It is very funny.
The owls are great especially when they call to each other at night. We enjoyed hearing the coyotes last fall/winter, but we have not heard them yet this season.
I have yet to see a cat in the neighborhood. I would guess this is do to the coyotes.
Great star gazing out here as well.
October 26, 2012 at 1:24 PM #753242NavydocParticipantI have a praying mantis on the front of the house just about every day. Also lots of the big grasshoppers. I have seen a few coyotes along Stonebridge Parkway when I’m riding my bike to work in the mornings. It’s still dark out so I see their eyes refelcted in my lights. They keep their distance though. I don’t worry about my dog too much with them, as I think a Golden Retriever would give a coyote a run for its money.
The stargazing here surpasses my wildest expectations. The only problem is the light pollution from the Pomerado inductrial park. Better on weekends though. Haven’t unpacked the telescope just yet. Might break it out tonight.
October 26, 2012 at 2:06 PM #753243plmParticipantThere is a den of coyotes behind us so I get to hear them howling after a kill most nights. I’m on the South side facing the open space so its completely dark for star gazing. Got to experience my first meteor shower here, Leonids I think.
But I think your side may be better because of the firing range this side which can be noisy in the morning. Also I like the view of the mountains to the north better. In the winter, you should be able to see the snow capped mountains. South is mostly hills although the distant lights of what I think is El Cajon is nice at night.
Also there is a ridculously far away ocean view if you look northwest.
October 26, 2012 at 2:23 PM #753244upwardspiralParticipantWe actually joke about the fact that we moved from the beach to Stonebridge and did not have to sacrifice our ocean view. Albeit a very, very, small ocean view.
