The original post is a rather lame attempt at demonstrating the ‘perils’ of big government. In contrast to the OP’s goal of demonizing big government, the OP has instead unwittingly demonstrated the harm that can befall innocent citizens when powerful, politically-connected private individuals influence government to act in a deleterious manner.
This happens all too often. Regulators at the SEC know that if they look the other way when banksters are raping Main Street, that they will eventually get cush jobs on Wall Street. Regulators at the Minerals Management Service know that if they look the other way while BP rapes the Gulf Coast, they will be rewarded.
The real problem in America is the all-too-common insidious relationship between unscrupulous government regulators and powerful, politically-connected private individuals and corporations with no sense of morality and no fear of prosecution. The constant demonizing of ‘big government’ only serves to drive down the level of political discourse to an elementary-school level while drawing attention away from the real issues.
If you have kids, I hope one day you don’t have to deal with this crap. Don’t come sniffling to anyone if it does. But oh, no…It can’t happen to you because nothing ever applies to holy mighty you..
Isn’t it amazing that with the state $20-30B in the hole that CPS has unlimited funds to hijack people? Or that the DEA spent $10B on weed eradication/enforcement just last year? In the meantime beat cops are woefully undermanned and fire stations/parks are closing.January 18, 2011 at 12:31 AM #655217equalizerParticipant

The original post is a rather lame attempt at demonstrating the ‘perils’ of big government. But oh, no…It can’t happen to you because nothing ever applies to holy mighty you..
Likewise for you, when your kids are drinking toxic waste straight from the tap because people like you have repealed the regulations which prevent big companies from dumping their toxic wastes with impunity.
Because of people like you, oil companies can inject whatever chemicals they want into the ground during a process called fracking and the EPA can’t even ask them about it.

If there’s any justice in this world, anti-regulators like yourself will be the only ones to suffer the ill health effects from all the unregulated toxic chemicals in the environment. Unfortunately, the world doesn’t work that way. Even though I favor sensible regulation, my family and I are just as likely to suffer ill health as someone like you who doesn’t care if British Petroleum or Haliburton dumps a toxic load into your drinking water.

January 18, 2011 at 8:12 AM #655210jstoeszParticipantwow you should be an olympic pole vaulter with your leaps in that statement. I think everyone here who opposes CPS from taking kids with impunity must be against ALL regulation. Hell, lets start burning down the rain forest while we are at it. And we all love clubbing baby seals.
Who here thinks, ILR is just BGIG with a new screen name?
