I have to wonder … he was essentially stripped of his team AND fined $2.5 million. What could the NBA actually do to him if he said “go screw yourselves with a pointy object — I ain’t paying no fine.”?

He wasn’t exactly stripped of his team. He still owns it. And will, more likely than not, be required to sell it. For somewhere between $.5 and 1 billion. The fine is incidental, but it’s the most that the commissioner has the authority to impose.

Can he sell it to an equally unpleasant character (or someone virtually guaranteed to mismanage it) for a slightly lower price just to screw with the NBA?

I guess there’s kind of a gray area between not prostitute and prostitute. I mean, if you marry guy A because he’s got a better paying, more secure job than guy B (who you like/love more, and who only doesn’t have as good a job as guy A because of bad luck), you’re not a prostitute, in my opinion. There’s a spectrum on the money/sex issue from there to direct and negotiated compensation for sex.

This guy is a former lawyer and will sue the NBA into the orbit of Mars. If he wants to keep the team I’m pretty sure he’ll exhaust all his legal options and still be holding the team when he dies. The best strategy from his perspective is to name a really high price i.e. > 1 billion. Then the pressure is on the NBA. If they want him gone they better help a buyer come in and buy at that price.

I’m surprise that Sterling, obviously business savy and pretty good at real estate investments didn’t figure one very important thing when it comes to the “women” he goes after..

For those type of “women”, it’s probably cheaper to do a short term rental than a long term lease or buy…

I doubt he’s more racist than other pimp daddies on average. Anyone who’s Ho was tramping around with a bunch of black guys would probably say the same thing. He was probably worried she was doing more than photo ops with them.

A black guy would have said “quit going around with all those niggers”.

The thing about the apartments isn’t right but it’s very common “business ethics” for lots of rental areas. It is hard to screen tenants so he probably felt like going with the averages.

California is pretty full of that IMHO I can’t put my finger on exactly when, IMO, Hefner went from being ‘the Dude’ to creepy old guy with a thing for young barely consenting age blonde girls.

And at the risk of completely derailing the conversation, am I the only one whose guydar goes off when I see photos of Sterlings alleged mistress? I’m not trying to denigrate the transgender community but her image for me really reminds me of the few people that I’ve encountered that we’re in process of transition.

My prediction….won’t happen that way. The league will set a deadline. Probably a year from now, he will not own the Clippers. Probably before the next season starts. If he still owns the team at the beginning of next season, he won’t have a local TV or radio contract. And he will not be able to name his price. He will sell or his franchise will be revoked and he gets zero.

I didn’t really follow the story. Sterling’s wife is suing Stiviano for things Sterling gave away to his GF?

Yeah, if he gave it to her. Which it’s starting to look like he did. I think the claim (by the wife or whoever was suing her) was that she had embezzled it. But that doesn’t really make sense now that I think about it.
