My wife works for the government. Theoretically positions are opened for everyone. However, 99% of positions are filled with relatives and friends. They post the positions online but usually just for show.

you do not need to “know someone” to get in.

I guess this solidifies my position on unions. Basically fraud under the guise of “protecting the middle class” Like the middle class are ONLY government union workers. Ok it may end up that way, Wealthy, Government workers and the rest of us in poverty, which seems to be the big plan…
Now if we can just get long jail sentences for crimes such as stepping on the cracks in the sidewalk…
Stepping on the cracks in the sidewalk not a crime? It only takes the assembly passing a bill…

April 30, 2011 at 8:43 PM #690753sdrealtorParticipant
Wow, I can’t believe someone thinks prison guards are overpaid…talk about one of the worst and most difficult jobs out there. Again, if the job is so easy, and the guards are compensated so well, why aren’t all the complainers signing up?
If you’re not giving up your job to become a prison guard, then either you’re not thinking straight, or something inside of you truly knows that you are better off where you are than if you were to become a prison guard.
Quite possibly the worst and most pathetic strawman argument I’ve seen in a long time. The fact that I wouldnt want this job has nothing to do with the fact that there are thousands of people who would take this job in a minute and are qualified to do it. Please dont roll out that nonsense again.

April 30, 2011 at 9:29 PM #690788CA renterParticipantWrong, sdr. If someone *truly believes* that these jobs are better than their own, they would sign up for them. I know I sure would.
Again, thousands of people would gladly apply for any job that pays well — like I’ve said about entertainers and CEOs, above. I’ll bet even more people would apply for those jobs than the job of prison guard…if they were ever open to the general public.
It’s easy to complain, quite another do actually do something to improve one’s lot in life (if one really believes it is an improvement).
