We have just found out we are part of an OC housing market scam. This is under investigation right now so I can’t give out too much in details.
Being a renter for the last 5 years watching this insane market we just moved to a new home here in Fullerton last right before Christmas 2006. It’s an amazing old craftsman home with a very nice back house. The rent is 2200 a month. We signed a year lease contract with a woman claiming to be the owner’s real estate agent. Paid first, last month and credit fee. She provided her business information and documents showing proof of their business relationship. The guy who listed the rental on craigslist was the one who would be our contact about the property. This included plumbing, gardening and any needs around the house.
We were so happy finding this home situated in a wonderful family neighborhood. Our hope was that one day the market would fall to a price we could afford.
Today a woman claiming to be the owner of our home came with her family and a legal rep to inform us that this home was purchased by the owner’s ex-boyfriend and his new girlfriend (Real estate agent who we signed the lease contract with). The owner had no idea this home was purchased under her name. In fact it gets worst apparently there are 7 houses involved in this scam. The owner has two children with this dead beat father.
The home loan is in default and I found through our personal friend an agent the property tax of 5,000 dollars is owned since Sept of last year.
The legal rep said the owner is looking to sell these properties of course but to bad they were all purchased in the past few months.
What are we going to you ask? Live rent free for a couple months until we find our new rental!
