[/quote]Since zzz vetoed Denver (said west of Denver) and Texas, I would second Sacramento. Sacramento is affordable and near the Bay Area.

Not a bad place if you want to commute to work and enjoy living in a sea of similar stucco houses and strip malls. That environment is a bit surreal and dehumanizing to me. But plenty of people like it.
