She wrote, “I dont believe you” and he called her, “dumb ass”, “bitter loner”, and “patheric individual”. Really now, which person one is name calling?
I cannot understand why every blog turns so foul like this… I, for one, have felt uncomfortable with sdrealtor since the day he posted that he knew who powayseller is and could identify her. That is just disturbing. Now, again, he has threatened to exposed her identity.
In another post he says that she is a liar because her name is powayseller and her house was in lakeside. Well, as I stated before, if you had a house in Solana Beach, up behind the country club, the kids go to Solana Beach elementary schools, the stores you would shop in are all Solana Beach, and yet it has a Del Mar mailing address. Would you call yourself “delmarseller”? No.
Please stop this. I hate to have to abandon this blog. There is plenty of name calling and swearing on the other bubble blogs (I actually think it can be entertaining). It is the threatening to take away a person’s anonymity I find truly horrible.
May 1, 2006 at 8:58 AM #24835zkParticipantI agree that the whole thing was out of hand. I was merely trying to get to the root of the problem and help sort it out. I realize now that was a mistake. But since I’m knee deep in it now, might as well explain what I was trying to point out.
PS called SDR a liar, whether she used that word or not. Every one of SDR’s insults you mention came after she did that. You can’t insult someone’s integrity like that and not expect counterfire.
I could see that nothing was going to get better if she didn’t own up to starting the battle. And all I wanted was to try to help turn this blog from being “foul.”
Of course even mentioning that you can expose someone is scary. My guess is he didn’t mean to scare her, and that he regrets saying it.
I’m not going to suggest he apologize because we can see where that got me last time.
For the record, I’d rather be called “dumb ass”, “bitter loner”, and “pathetic individual” than liar. Of course, that may be because I am a dumb ass but I’m not a liar.
OK, let’s move forward and get back to the business of discussing the real estate market and not each other.
And let’s take PS’s advice and be careful with our words.
May 1, 2006 at 9:09 AM #24838KingKongParticipantzk, I am not a judge but I strongly disagree with your first statement that PS started the whole name calling thing. If you had read her post, she first rumbled logically that why it is very unusual to have a personal 3X sales over previous year while the market is 35% down. I am not math wizard but the odds are strongly against this scenario provided that he had a decent sales last year ( as you know 3X of 0 is 0 and 3X of 1 is 3 and so on.). Then at the last sentence, after the logical analysis, PS concluded that this is highly unlikely and demanded real numbers. I believe if SDR just gave us some ballpark numbers, everyone will be happy 🙂
May 1, 2006 at 9:18 AM #24839zkParticipantWell, we’ll just have to agree to disagree on that. To me, if someone says “I’m having my best year ever,” and you say, “I don’t believe you,” what you’re saying is “I believe what you’re saying isn’t true.” Which to me is the same as “you’re lying.” I don’t see what numbers have to do with it.
If your and lostkitty’s posts are any indication, I may be in the minority on that opinion. I’d like it if someone could point out to me how what PS did is not calling SDR a liar. But it’s not that important to me. Getting back to discussing the real estate market and not each other seems more important to me at this point.
May 1, 2006 at 9:29 AM #24840zkParticipantIt’s kinda funny. I learned long ago not to get between people in this type of situation in real life. For some whacky reason, I thought the distance and impersonalness of a blog would render the usual problems of sticking your nose where it doesn’t belong irrelevant. I really am a dumbass!
May 1, 2006 at 10:07 AM #24842powaysellerParticipantIt sounds like things are toned down enough.
I would say to any realtor, mortgage broker, appraiser, title officer who asserts their income is up over last year:
“I’m calling your bluff. Data please….”
May 1, 2006 at 10:49 AM #24846sdrealtorParticipantRelax everyone! I have no intention of disclosing pS’s identity. I’m smart enough to realize that all of her efforts to anger me are attempts to get me to disclose enough personal details about myself and my business so that she may figure out who I am. Not gonna happen. If I used my name, you would all accuse me of shilling for business which was never my intent. The fact that I hold my anonymity so dear only adds to my credibility in speaking straight forward and honest. I have to laugh about the paid NAR SHill comments..I’ve got my own conspiracy theory about PS. Coming soon…..you wont want to miss it;)
May 1, 2006 at 11:07 AM #24848lendingbubblecontinuesParticipantI was kidding about the paid NAR shill comment, of course. I imagine the NAR has very little left over to pay additonal shills, when you consider just how much they must be paying David Lereah these days to keep him from going over to “the dark side”.
One has to wonder what one’s reputation as an economist is worth, especially one who’s credibility is extremely vulnerable and who’s future as a paid “anything” is certainly up in the air.
May 1, 2006 at 11:22 AM #24851powaysellerParticipantHey, sdr, I don’t want to anger you. Scroll back through these posts. It started with me quoting from another website that listings don’t mean anything. You said you had your best year ever, and I questioned how this could be possible. You started calling me names.
Perhaps this helps: Imagine Delta’s CEO coming out and saying they are on track to have their best year ever. Their suppliers are pricing the gasoline just right, they attract passengers willing to pay the full fare, the labor unions are cooperative, and they were crafty enough to buy oil futures last year and have a steady supply of low cost oil. If I were an analyst in that room, I would ask for data to back this up. I can’t imagine that a CEO would be offended by that request or resort to calling the analyst pathetic.
May 1, 2006 at 11:23 AM #24852Jim BrubakerParticipantI imagine that there will be at least 3 or 4 realtors that will make over a million in commissions this year in San Diego County. They’re not waving a flag over it, and they don’t have time to respond to this column. The info you want is a matter of public record. I take issue with your qualifier of “any.” I wouldn’t argue over a statement like “Most people in the industry are starving to death.” Its rather obvious.
I would imagine that there are realtors out there that only sold one house last year. This year they might get lucky. It took me 9 months to sell my first house, and then it got better.
Plus remember rich people don’t care about real estate cycles or prices. They buy what they want when they want. Thats why the median house price is still going up.
May 1, 2006 at 11:27 AM #24853lostkittyParticipantzk – If you look at the Best Communities topic, you will se that sdrealtor called her a liar as well regarding her name. Even using the word “lie”. So, no sense standing up for his “honor and integrity”.
May 1, 2006 at 11:41 AM #24856sdrealtorParticipantWhile you are scrolling back take the time to actually read my response which explains in simple terms how that is possible using a baseball analogy. Your Delta CEO example once again shows how little you understand about the business side of real estate. The question to ask is not how Delta is having a great year but rather how one of their pilots, flight attendants or baggage loader is having their highest earning year ever.
I havent figured out your agenda but you attempt to discredit me with outright lies (i.e. I am unfamiliar with the Cedar Fire or Shadow Zips) but I do have my theories.
You have no reason to question my honesty and I surely will not be as foolish as you were to disclose personal information.
May 1, 2006 at 12:21 PM #24860powaysellerParticipantThe pilots I know have had to make big wage concessions.
There is no agenda, other than inquisitiveness, and trying to learn. I am trying to learn how a Delta pilot can get a raise when the company is struggling.
It’s possible for a realtor to make more money in a declining market, but again taking an analogy from the airline industry, it’s the low-cost business models who survive. Southwest Airlines is doing well, as presumably are HelpUSell and iPayOne.
There are a myriad number of ways to back up your statements. You could state your # of sales or sales volume compared to last year.
You could tell us how your DOM compares with industry average, how you are able to get sellers to price their houses to sell (when most realtors cannot), how you can find buyers who qualify (when most new buyers are squeezed out and move-up buyers can’t sell to move up).
Instead of bantering shots at me, you could educate us about what’s going on the streets. I’d love to hear how sellers and buyers are coping, how lenders are doing, what others in your industry think about the slowdown, and if any are looking for new work. A mortgage broker on HousingBubbleCasualty.com, SoCalMtgGuy, was such an insider. He gave us the inside scoop. He’s a fabulous writer. He wrote about the tough times, and how 25-yr-old loan officers used to making $100K/year were suddenly struggling to make their Beamer payments, and facing bankruptcy. He finally got out. I thought you would be such a guy, giving us insider info. Instead, you get mad and defensive, and hurl insults at me. I hope we will have a realtor on this forum who will write about what’s going on in the field. It would be very welcome.
