I also like High Valley in Poway.

I agree with this. Great area. If not for my disdain for the Poway schools, it would be almost perfect.

On the other hand, I do like Valhalla.

WOW is right…Not for raising kids though, I am sure the school situation is less than optimum.
October 24, 2012 at 1:00 PM #753122DaCounselorParticipantBased on your criteria:
1. Rancho Santa Fe
2. OlivenheinOctober 24, 2012 at 1:11 PM #753125ocrenterParticipantI have to agree Temecula should definitely be in the running. Especially areas west of the I-15, the number of estate homes on acres are plenty and the OP can have his pick. the schools would be excellent as well.
I do think Poway should still be on the list, perhaps less available that would allow for poultry farming, but there should still be some. proximity for SD and the coast plus the schools would be a better plus.
Do not think Valley Center is a good idea. it isn’t freeway close. you’ll be shopping in Escondido, and schools are not that good.
October 24, 2012 at 2:15 PM #753131UCGalParticipantHow many chickens are we talking about?
Poway allows chickens.
Some HOAs might not – but the city of Poway doesn’t ban them.http://www.backyardchickens.com/a/poway-california-chicken-ordinance
But your chickens better be quiet ones – or the lot big enough that the neighbors can’t here them.
The city of San Diego allows chickens, also. In fact they recently relaxed their restrictions on hens (while tightening them on roosters.)

Wow… it’s been almost 20 years since I’ve heard “north county” and “culture” together in a sentence that wasn’t ironic, disparaging, self-aggrandizing, or some combination of any/all of the above.
October 24, 2012 at 7:58 PM #753149scaredyclassicParticipantthere is an area called La Cresta, west of 1-15, verywealthy exclusive area west ofmurrieta and temecula in the hills, super nice, if you don’t have to commute anywhere. people with money live there. amazng structureswithawesome views for sale there pretty cheap. the estates are extremely estate like.

looks pretty noncrappy for 2.1 million. the places for 1 million look about as nice, just smaller. 5 acre min lots up that way..
http://www.redfin.com/CA/Murrieta/40432-Via-Caballos-92562/home/6194062
also nice at 1.7 million. maybe nicer!
admittedly that first one especially looks like an NBA star should be living in it; so a normal human might feel weird in there, particularly someone with an affinity for chickens. we looked at a lot of places up there in the 400-700 range maybe 3 years ago that were really gorgeous but smaller. i love it up there but it’s just kind of a drag to get down to the freeway. it’s a great area to go hiking, cleveland natl forest is aprtly there…also santa rosa nature preserve. really awesome ecosystem.

My guess is that if he is buying a house for $2 million cash then he has plenty more in reserves.
Money is all relative. $2 million to one person is like $20 to another.
I have friends/clients that have a high net worth (I’m talking tens of millions of dollars and in a few cases over $100 million). And I’ve seen them spend over $15,000 in a night at a bar treating everyone to drinks. Personally I find it completely crazy but it’s all relative….

How do you know the OP only have 2M in cash? How do you know this is his/her only property? -
