HOA restrictions in Temecula area

Hello everyone,

I am new to this forum, so I hope I get posting right.

My husband and I fell in love with the Meadowview area of Temecula, but realized it has a HOA when we researched more. So now I have a two part question:

1. Are the HOAs in Temecula intense with the CCRs (I think that is what they are called, the rules)? I don’t mind at all paying a fee for maintaining community services. However, I don’t really want everything about my property dictated by the will of the HOA. I kind of assume that there is a standard HOA contract, but enforceability varies. So are Temecula HOAs (Meadoview specifically, but any of them really) strongly enforced? Hope that question makes sense.

2. Are there any other areas with a similar feel to Meadowview that do not have a HOA or at least more relaxed rules? We are looking for maybe around a .25-.75 acre lot, but still want to know our neighbors and have our child be able to play outside with the neighborhood kids. Does this exist?

Any thoughts are very much appreciated. We are still a ways from moving, but this was the only southern ca city that has really excited us so far in our search.

Also, if any interracial couples have input on how comfortable they feel in Temecula, I would love feedback on that. My husband is Hispanic/Asian and I am white. We never had an issue in Central Ca, so I would think we wouldn’t in southern ca. But it is certainly something I would want to be aware of prior to moving.

Try searching for lawsuits that involve the Meadowview Community Association. It will give you an idea of whether people get frustrated with them, and if so, about what.

IIRC, SD used goats to clear the hills behind Scripps Ranch about a year after the Cedar fires.

My wife and I are an interracial couple in Temecula. Our background is not much different from your situation, except I’m the white guy. Temecula is generally conservative but not backwards. You’ll be fine.

We’ve been in Temecula many years but only know a couple of families that live in Meadowview. I don’t have any specific knowledge of their HOAs. If you are looking for something similar without HOA there is of course “wine country” which is a large area with varying rural character.

That’s a good idea. I’ve never lived in a HOA community and am wary of them. We just loved the feel of the neighborhood (which may be because of the very HOA I fear)

We’re a mexi-jew couple in temecula with mexi-jew kids. No problems in 14 years.

Meadowview is where I wanted to buy but my wife said I was too messy for an HOA. It does look tidy. There’s nowhere quite like it in the area for smaller big lots.

Can walk to chaparral hs. Awesome.

And I am not super familiar with the area, but I agree the location looked perfect. It is just that HOA that has us hung up. The idea of someone else telling other adults what to do with their property is hard to wrap my head around (full disclosure: we have never been homeowners before).

The pool is beautiful there. Let the HOA clean it. I hate dealing with my pool. Actually, now I remember making an offer on a perfect Meadowview house. On the meadow. Bid a little too low. Was so sad. Should’ve come in stronger. Then I’d be in Meadowview right now!!!

Wine country is OK but I prefer Meadowview.

Unless you are willing to pay whatever it takes for someone else to take care of your pool, it’s not worth having one.

I think that temecula was a destination for White conservative middle-class escapees from LA and SD. But in the last couple decades, it has come into it’s own.
I have the impression that Temecula is still more conservative than Orange County which was once represented by conservative firebrand Bob Dorman. Things have come a long way in the last couple decades.

I prefer the Y where, for $40 month, an olympic sized pool and 20-person jacuzzi is maintained (and preheated) FOR me, in addition to having access to circuit training and a multitude of classes.

Good to have all these opinions on a pool. I haven’t given it much thought, but will bring it up to my husband.

Thanks for your feedback. Conservative is fine (we lived in central ca for several years) as long as conservative isn’t code for racist. From the feedback I’ve gotten here, most Temecula residents (temeculans?) have no issues with interracial couples.

Edit: And I keep messing up posting. This was in reply to flyerinhi regarding Temecula being conservative.
