Government plan to be announced this week

SO the plan is not just to prevent foreclosures.

Well, most of us realized a year or two ago that hoping for the free market to push the housing prices to reasonable valuations was not going to happen. As more government programs were released it became clear that the powers that be were going to be determined to slow down or at least delay the depreciation cycle.

Well this week we will hear the program that president Obama is going to roll out. I am very fearful that the mortage stimulus was the proverbial tip of the iceberg. This statement from David Axelrod, (one of Obama’s senior advisors) did not make me feel much better.

As the year progressed Speaking on “Fox News Sunday,” senior adviser David Axelrod said the plan that President Barack Obama plans to announce on Wednesday will aim to provide immediate help to homeowners who are “right on the edge” of foreclosure, and ultimately help in “raising home values that have been plummeting.”

I am not happy that the government thinks that house values need to be “raised”.

They will never be able to solve the problem until they learn to define the problem. So far, they are so far from understanding the problem that every dollar spent will end up making things that much worse. Even moreso then usual… All I can help is that this plan will be implemented everywhere with the exception of the most bubbly of markets. You just pegged it so well… They are really far from understanding anything.

One thing I learned as I moved up the engineering ladder into management was that you need to be less of an expert at everything and better are handling people. This enables you to lead more effectively but you need to make sure that those people who you select to make the technical choices are very much experts.

My feeling is that the expertise that has been selected by this administration has not been based on technical merit at all. **NOTE HERE** Neither was the expertise from the last administration. However if there was ever a crucial period in our history where we needed that expertise it is here and now. That is what is the scariest thing of all. It seemed like Obama had a chance to empower someone like Paul Volker, and if Obama really wanted change, he could have formed a commission of guys like Roubini and others. I was thinking maybe he could have gone way out of the box, enlisted some real minds to try to identify this monster, get arms around it, and root out the disease. Instead Volker has pretty much been outed, and the staff that Obama has, is nothing more then some Clinton retreads. It is simply a left leaning mirror of the losers Bush had.

I read an article somewhere (cnn?) that said the whole problem right now is that Americans are saving too much. You heard that right, apparently the problem is that the world economy cant run when America has a 3% savings rate.

The idea was that we need to start spending more and more again, and then when “things get better, go back to saving more.” How things are gonna stay better when Americans start saving again they dont really go into, but it sure sounds good.

I think this is the kinda BS advice big government is getting.
