Funny, I just finished my rant about the Realtor Machine in the “Carmel Valley Monitor” thread. I so agree with you that buyers are getting the shakedown from all fronts and that there should be a “buyer consortium”. Sadly, majority of average joe’s are so sadled with huge debts and are all distracted – scrambling away to pay off and get out of never-ending debt servitude.

July 22, 2007 at 9:25 PM #67071patientrenterParticipantI wish it were possible for buyers to collectively jawbone the markets down… But I can’t see it happening.
All the other groups (owners, lenders, agents..) have a core of people whose livelihood and/or wealth depend on real estate going up. These people are in it for the long haul and/or full-time and fight all-out for their interests.
Renters looking to buy are a much smaller group, and membership is temporary by definition. No full-time professionals make money from lowering prices.
Sorry, pnilesh.

July 22, 2007 at 9:30 PM #67075hpiParticipantshould be a seller consortium too?
NAR is for the profit of realtor unfortunately. It is interesting to know how important of realtor in the decision making process of either seller or buyer.

Buyers can empower themselves by becoming more informed about what is and what isn’t. The information they need to become independently informed is becoming more readily available all the time.
Buyers don’t need another advocate – they just need to care enough to do some of their own research.

July 23, 2007 at 1:57 PM #67209daveljParticipant…or what President Bush refers to as “strategery.”
Back on topic, though… the single biggest problem is that the Realtor, Mortgage and other professional advocacy groups are supported by dues from their members. I don’t see potential home buyers and sellers paying dues to some amorphous group claiming to be looking out for their interests solely during the time they’re interested in a transaction.

the problem is with the data. the data goes to the mls, from which i suspect, you can’t legally reprint without their consent.
the free options, such as this forum, however…
