Now I am going to have to pee in my wetsuit to stay warm! Surfing Old Man’s at San O was great with the 10 degree warmer water coming out of the heat exchangers…

I wouldn’t count on the salespeople to do the numbers for you as I found a lot of them to play the smokes and mirrors game about systems/efficiency/quality/etc., that the real goal of ROI is lost. In the end, it’s not about an expensive hobby and that it should be rooted in sound economics. Not to discount those topics as there are indeed a lot of variables and technicalities, but I found the sales people in general to be only concerned about marketing and selling. Also, you want to make sure the company is not a sales only operation, and that you actually want to work directly with an installer.
That said, all the variables are really captured in two numbers – price per watt and estimated annual production for the proposed system. And of course, you want to go with a reputable warrantied installer and hardware with a production warranty. My installed price/watt was better than $3/watt on an ideal south facing install, without space or obstructions related compromises.
Actually, my ROI is actually better than 4 years, as I’ve jumped both feet in an bought an electric car to go along with the system.

You mean like total lifecycle costs that show a ceramic/stoneware coffee mug has a breakeven of ten years daily reuse to create less environmental impact than a paper disposable cup?
July 1, 2013 at 3:24 PM #763294spdrunParticipantI have cups that are easily 10-20 years old.
Face it — the sooner we euthanize the fossil fuel industry (coal, oil, natural gas) the better it will be for the country. However, I’m not discounting nuke power. In fact, I’d support the construction of 10 new nuke plants per annum, even if it’s directly in my back yard.
July 1, 2013 at 3:29 PM #763295The-ShovelerParticipantGreat, now all we have to do it put them all in your back yard and just get the Fed to mandate that all the states will have to let them run wires through to power everyone else.
Thanks !!

LOL, yea, I break one or more a year I still have cups that are 10+ years old. I’ve just bought probably millennium of paper cups so far though.
Snark aside, the sooner we get real but the real “costs” of the alternatives, we can actually use the best solutions.
Right now, we seem to chronically lie about the ‘goodness’ of ‘green’ energy (there’s a reason most are getting built in China) and the ‘cheapness’ of fossil fuels.
July 2, 2013 at 1:48 PM #763310birmingplumbParticipantI was introduced on the 1984 Shut down at San Onofre as ” meet Mike from Detroit, he is on a mission from heaven”” by my fitter . I was in San Diego to take my wife to see her dying mother, my father to see his 93 year old father. 1 year later all 3 were dead. I happened by the pipefitters union hall and signed book 4 for out of state welders. The call came in day before we were to leave. I passed the weld test and hired in 7 days 12 hours @ 30 something. My partner Eric took me to the tent /office and asked for my w4 form which he tore up, filled out a new one with my name and put “exempt” then signed it. I saved 24k in 10 weeks, saw the olympic flame pass by , worked on the Ocean, met great people and made contacts.I did buy about 20k worth of silver 100 oz bars and stuffed them in a suitcase for the drive home. My son and son in law became apprentices 2-1/2 years ago there. I owe a great deal of thanks to the people of California, the people of Local 230 San Diego, and the warm and kind people on this board who assisted me with finding places to live for my family as they migrated to the wonderful place that is San Diego. Bearish Gurl , especially helped me and for that words are not enough but will have to do for now until I can thank this person face to face. So God bless this forum, the people of San Diego and the great state of California, and thank you for making a dream come true for so many. The nuke closing was a sad day for me but I understand. I also understand the man hours for fitters and welders that will come and help the economy with jobs to build replacement power, no matter the source. Motown
