Still, I don’t have too much of an issues with it. In a free market, insurance would require seat belts and I have no issues w/ the gov. requiring insurance, so it ends up being the same thing.

BTW, mandating higher CAFE standards does not mean that gas guzzlers will be banned. Gas guzzlers will become more expensive, that’s all.
Mark my words; when the Chinese build new alternative fuel auto companies and when we have to buy their cars, we will wonder why we gave up that market. At that time, just don’t complain about the hollowing of the American middle-class.
