I used to think this was going to speed things up. That was in late 2004 when I first became aware of what was going on. I thought for sure, with the internet, others would be quickly informed, and within 6 months all the crashing would be done. Guess I was wrong about that. Now I’m pretty much convinced that most people pay little if any attention to housing and financials, except what they hear from their friends. And since finance is not a popular topic, I’d have to say the internet will make little difference.

XBoxBoyParticipantWasn’t Pol Pot an engineer?
According to Wikipedia, Pol Pot studied as an engineer, but failed his exams three years in a row. So, I think you could only dub him an aspiring engineer who washed out.

XBoxBoyParticipantSo, since Case Shiller is coming up this week, I’m wondering does anyone know if Case-Shiller takes into account home improvements?
For instance if I buy a crummy little house in bird rock, for a million, tear it down and build a much bigger house and sell it for two million, will Case Shiller report a 100% price increase on this house? Or will Case-Shiller exclude this house because it is no longer the same thing?
If Case Shiller does not adjust for improvements, then it is going to overestimate the price increase, and under estimate the price decreases. If they do adjust for improvements, how do they do that as there would be many different cases and scenarios that would need to be adjusted for.

XBoxBoyParticipantLooks like the bank didn’t get anywhere near the $5,500,000 that was listed as the estimated value in the auction flyer. Matter of fact, looks like they only got $3,300,000

I don’t think this was an auction sale, but a sale after the auction, but not sure about that.
Does anyone with access to the loan databases know how much the banks ate on this one?
