ParticipantFor a long time the NRA agenda has been to sell guns. Now it seems the NRA message is to encourage Americans to use guns against dissenting opinion.
Umm. it does not say that. I would call this comment of yours an attempt to inflame on false pretenses. Nor does the video pose the targetting of the lives of dissenting opinion. It targets the mis-use of MSM to mold ideas and consensus instead of factually informing. Quote from video and description:
The only way to save our country and our freedom from their lies is to fight the violence with the clenched fist of truth.
The reason that some false news feeds are so successful is that people know something is wrong and they MSM is not really digging into it.
- Obamacare was supposed to reduce costs of health care, but everything has gotten significantly more expensive and now people are trapped. Unlike before – insurance is almost necessary for everyone. We have paid into the system and if you exit – you have to admit that all the thousands of dollars an individual paid in were wasted – basically flushed down the sink. The ACA exploited us using principles of gambler addiction. Basic Generic Antibiotic costs have jumped 10x (1000%). The MSM parrots that the costs are dropping – but sometimes put a single line ‘disclaimer’ that clarifies that ‘some’ prices are dropping. Consumer reports are showing that prices are increasing across the board. Specialty (non-generic) prices are increasing very rapidly. Links for reference:

https://press.aarp.org/2017-09-07-Specialty-Drug-Prices-Increase-at-Fastest-Rate-in-Over-a-Decade?asPDF=1
https://www.health.harvard.edu/blog/why-many-generic-drugs-are-becoming-so-expensive-201510228480- We have politicians like Pelosi saying that we must pass the bill (ACA) so we can know what is in it. And the MSM did not dig into the questions that statement creates. If they (Congress) wrote it, wouldn’t they know what was in it? Isn’t it their job?
Things like these are the things that your video is referencing. As for lobbying, all paid lobbyists have tremendous influence over our legislature. Not just the NRA.
Part of this:
“They use their media to assassinate real news”
“They use their schools to teach children that their president is another Hitler. They use their movie stars and singers and comedy shows and award shows to repeat their narrative over and over again.”
Is provably true. Just look at who and what all of the MSM targets. There is plenty to target on both sides of the political isle.

1st Amendment protects the speech of US residents. It doesn’t protect foreign governments.
That is where it kind of gets interesting.. some of the protections of the constitution have been extended to non-citizens as well as non-residents via Supreme Court. Non-residents and non-citizens which happen to be citizens of foreign nations.
Lol, that’s complete bullshit.
You’re clearly more concerned about the imaginary First Amendment rights of Vladimir Putin than you are about a real US president that tells the American people that we can only trust the White House as source of information.
They’ve got you. Hook, line, sinker.
You know, I have been civil here without dropping down to using ad hominem attacks (use of logic fallacies). When logic fails, you seem to resort to insults. The pushing of constitutional rights to foreign persons is not a fallacy. Its true. The issues of ‘sanctuary cities’ demonstrates some of it. That many people being in the US illegally can somehow get assistance from SSI (which was formed to help the citizens of this nation). That people in the country illegally (non-citizens) have the right to the first amendment as shown by public demonstrations by Mexican nationals.
I make no differentiation between whether a person here illegally is Mexican or Russian. That would be racist.
I make no differentiation between whether a person making posts is Mexican or Russian. That would be racist.
Your post sounds almost McCarthy-ist.. ie. The Red Scare. You are also not paying attention to what I have posted which states that I do not like any law that puts some governmental official (ie White House) in charge of determining what it true fact or what if fake news. As I said – It is “Kind of Orwellian” – see 5th post on this thread.
Also see my last line to the comment that you responded to:
As for the gov’s “Trust Me”, I prefer to trust but always be able to verify.
Maybe it would be better to read for comprehension before popping off.

Non-residents and non-citizens which happen to be citizens of foreign nations. At this point, we need to be careful of any attempt to pick and choose which.
While I agree that foreign govs. should not be afforded the same freedom, I also realize that much that is not good can be maneuvered under the umbrella of protecting against the acts of that foreign gov. (ie. like North Korea claiming that the US and just about everyone else is out to get them — so they must censor their public from seeing life outside of North Korea). It is a matter of degree.. but how much is healthy? And how much of ‘Trust Me’ from the government leads to being blindly lead?
Some are whigs, liberals, democrats, call them what you please. Others are tories, serviles, aristocrats, &c. The latter fear the people, and wish to transfer all power to the higher classes of society; the former consider the people as the safest depository of power in the last resort; they cherish them therefore, and wish to leave in them all the powers to the exercise of which they are competent
— Jeffersons comment to William Short
Ironically, sometimes I feel that the current democrats/liberals have traded places with the former tories due to their wish of more government control. Sounds almost like how some feel that the ‘despicables’ shouldn’t have a right to vote.Think of this.. how much over-reach has occurred through the Patriot Act, and how much has the Constitution been trampled on under the guise of protecting the citizens of the US. How much have we actually been protected? How much has been swept under the rug as ‘secret’, ‘top secret’ which is really just ’embarassing’ or ‘awkward’ to the current or previous administrations. Classifications only intent was to protect the nation and its people – not politicians and governmental 3 lettered administrations from scrutiny. The other question might also be, how much has this also been the justification to use military force to potentially benefit certain companies at the expense of other nations and potentially the lives of citizens of other nations.
As for the gov’s “Trust Me”, I prefer to trust but always be able to verify.

Participant
”Enslavement” lol.
Taking an extreme point – what would you call the life of the North Koreans. The North Korean government has complete control of their press – with their propaganda machines continually running overtime. What or who determines for them, what is “fake news”? (rhetorical question really – Korean Central Broadcasting System). The underlying point is that a free press is truly required for a free society. Here are some nice reads: https://en.wikiquote.org/wiki/Freedom_of_the_press
It is easy to try to mock what I said about enslavement, however history has shown that controlling people’s access to information – even with the intent of ‘protecting’ the people, actually leads to unnecessary reduction in the people’s freedoms. When taken to far, that actually does become enslavement. One needs to be careful of why something is being ‘censored’, and if it is really justified.

Really.. just saw these comments. I don’t know why the segment was not showing up on the ‘active’ for me back then. BTW, you might want to reconsider wrt DoD considering protests as low-level terrorism – see this – a warning by ACLU to DoD, and ZeroHedge was publishing it while MSM was largely silent.

Which brings me to the question: What is the real purpose of the First Amendment? To know about what each ‘media star’ is doing in their personal life and how well they ‘twerk’, or what may run against the intents of the founders of this nation and the will of the people. Enslavement can easily be accomplished by progressive marginalization of rights, much like a frog an be fried by by slowly bringing up the temperature of the pan till its too late.
Personally I prefer too much ‘noise’ to someone autocratically deciding what is propaganda and what is not.

ParticipantThere is also the secondary issue that REITs are locking up land close the populated areas so that to actually get land that a company can own, it has to be a distance from populated areas. One can see an example of that in General Atomic’s property at Scripps Poway Parkway and General Atomics Way. There is BAEs property, which was originally General Dynamics up in RB (GD had also bought some of the other land around that area at the same time). Another (old) one is Cubic’s building at Balboa and Ruffin which was bought in the 1950s – hardly anything else was around. In both cases, not much infrastructure went out to those locations when they were first purchased (water, sewer, roads). Establishing such infrastructure costs and municipalities like to play a waiting game to see if they can get someone else to pay (which does make me question where some of our tax money is really going).
To be effective owning their own buildings as a company, the company almost has to have a ‘real-estate’ arm to their management as well as some connections to city planning. Leasing is an easy way out, and helps make your return on capital look better because a large block money is not tied up on the buildings and leasing costs tend to be corporate tax deductible. I does reduce book value though.

I guess this is why a good portion of wealth is still made from old school rental property….much more predictable it seems.
That’s a very observation flu. I prefer real estate.
But, in real estate, you won’t become billionaire, or even multi-millionaire. Much easier and faster with stocks.
I ran some calcs a few years back and came up with decent and consistent returns above 10% for long periods of time with rentals. I factored in many things including tax advantages including depreciation allowance at income tax rate vs recapture capital gains at cap gains rates on taxes, the counter balance of asset appreciation vs money depreciation etc. It was part of a rent vs buy calc I did years ago. It was interesting and almost made me pull the trigger on getting rental property. As for the downturn, I expected it and am expecting a total of nearly 15%. Since I have been in the market (w/ not much churn), I am still ahead for the past year + 1 month by about 16%. Because I was expecting it, I was and am keeping a good sized block of cash on the side and am planning to use it once the day-traders wring and wipe themselves out.
I think that part of what sparked it was that day-traders were expecting an ‘instant’ jump in earnings within the first month of the new tax law and panicked when they didn’t see it. They forgot it all depends upon what the date is for the corporate tax year, and one month does not a quarter’s earnings make.
So its time to keep the cards close to the chest and keep the green casino visor down low over your eyes.. its still going to be bumpy, but patience pays off… ☺
PS: With reference to Shiller PE graph, I find PEG more useful because it factors in growth. One is willing to tolerate a higher PE if there is strong growth. I also look at growth in revenues and how much is being paid for that and whether they have a chance of recapturing the cost. Looking at only PE is oversimplification.

ParticipantI wonder if this (nationalized 5G network) is actually a feint. I have noticed that Trump sometimes use ‘feints’ by putting out an extreme position, which he “may” have the authority to set, to coerce people to work together who would rather push their individual agendas to the cost of everyone else.
If you have noticed, the US Cellular telecom is partially balkanized. It seems to worse for a short time every time a new standard is developed. Each telecom pushes their own variant.
As it presently stands, there is multiple coverage in some areas while other areas are completely ignored.
Personally, I don’t think it is a good idea – though there may be a way to have it work. It might also allow the gov to spy on everyone.

ParticipantSomething similar to what the Mafia has been using for years to make people disappear. Part of the claim is that it is more energy efficient and also takes care of prion (Mad Cow like disease) which they claim cremation doesn’t.
While it takes energy to bring up a ‘crematorium’ up to 1800 degrees, it really isn’t that much (oddly like preheating an oven). After the body starts burning, it is actually producing energy. When you burn at 1800 degrees Fahrenheit, you will oxidize proteins – and many other compounds – that includes misshapen prions. Cremation would be more efficient if the bodies were cremated one after the other without cool-down and ash recovery – but that would not work too well for the ‘departed’s relatives and friends.
What the article misses is the amount of energy required to create Potassium hydroxide, and that the resulting solution afterwards, while not as ‘alkaline’, is still on the toxic side due to the amount of Potassium in the mixture; Potassium which is also hard to remove. Subtracting for the body, the mixture is about 30% Potassium by volume, more than 60% by weight. I can’t adjust for the amount of water added to make the strong disolving alkaline mixture because I don’t know what concentration it is. Like Sodium which also makes a strong base as a hydroxide, Potassium is toxic to humans and plants. In reality, it is probably not as environmentally friendly as they are making it sound like.

Participant
Utility scale solar tends to be made in USA and rooftop in China. China has a glut and is slashing prices already, to keep production up they may have to cover the tariff themselves.
Utility scale USA PV solar is not only made in the USA, and rooftop is not only China.Trina Solar link
Primary manufacturing countries include China, Taiwan, Korea, Malaysia, Singapore, Philippines.
One thing that makes it hard to find where the PV panels are built is because a company located in one country will source the manufacture in another. For example; Trina Solar (China) actually manufactured the panels in Taiwan as well as China; SunPower (USA) manufactures in the Philippines and Malaysia, First Solar (USA) manufactures in Malaysia.
It is a lousy business to be in, high capital and r&d costs and falling prices. We should let the Chinese have it.
I would keep the high efficiency panels to ourselves and slowly outsource the manufacture to other countries as we come up with higher efficiencies. Here is a good map: https://news.energysage.com/where-solar-panels-are-manufactured/
You have to go down a bit on their page though. Most of these are residential manufacturers. First Solar is not listed because they are a low efficiency panel and really only work where space is not a premium.Somewhere I have a document showing how reliable different manufacturers are and what the measured vs expected degradation of the panel is.
NOTE: For Utility type installations, Concentrators (ie bird friers) tend to be much more efficient. Conversion on Utility PV tends to be way below 15%, while concentrators run above 80% when mirrors are clean.

I wonder which percentage of those ‘streamers’ are birds. I could see the insects getting attracted to the bright light, but it might drive birds away. I do wonder if birds will start learning and start parking themselves near the base to get ‘precooked’ insect meals.

ParticipantFrom recollection, AGI includes Capital Gains. That means it also depends upon how much in gains you get on what your bracket is.
Another question is whether you depreciated your condo because that depreciation gets recaptured on the sale. The depreciation effectively drops your cost basis on the condo so the recapture is taxed at capital gains rates.
