ParticipantScarlett –
Another consideration – Mira Mesa. As AN has stated, most of the elementary schools over there are performing well. And the middle school and high school are as good or better than Stanley/UCHS. It has a reputation that is less than stellar – but the test scores of the past few years are totally in conflict with that reputation…In other words – people avoid Mira Mesa because they think the schools are subpar – but they’re actually very good.
Commute would likely be similar to LJ as from Clairemont.
Here’s an example… 500k, over 1500sf, canyon property.

ParticipantThe WSJ has a good summary of what happened based on congressional testimony, documents from BP, Transocean, Halliburton, MMS, etc..
While BP is not the only party to blame – some responsibility has to go to them. It wasn’t just a failure of the cement. Other things had gone wrong, and bad decisions were made. Steps were skipped or cut short due to deadlines.

ParticipantDWCAP – It sounds like your brother is in a less than optimal situation that many of us would love to be in. Was able to buy for below market, favorable loan terms, possible future debt forgiveness… Dang… that’s rough. LOL.
(Not disagreeing with your point about him preferring a different house and being stuck – but I hope your brother recognizes he’s lucky.)

Another issue – if you just move in spring/summer in a new district, would it be a problem enrolling in the appropriate public school there for the same Fall, or is it too late?
[/quote]If you move to a new district (say PUSD or SDUSD) then you would be automatically qualified for the school boundary your new home was in.
If you changed districts in spring/summer and wanted to explore choice options – eh… not so much. The top schools would no longer have slots available.
