ParticipantJust watched it this weekend with the kids, great movie to see with your kids. I can’t believe he lied to us.
Much better than the latest Vacation movie my husband and kids watched. I can’t believe the crap my husband allows them to see! Luckily they don’t understand most of it….

ParticipantWhile not a male, I have done vitamin research and recommend Natures Way Alive! Once daily (I use the one for women, but they have one for men).
I also take a ZMP (zinc, magnesium, potassium), b-complex, and sublingual b-12 (both Trader Joe’s brand), which are water soluble, so make for very expensive urine, but for some reason I think if my pee is nuclear yellow I am healthier.
Over the years have tried different blends. Being a vegetarian, I tend to see results in my energy level (distance runner and cyclist), skin, hair, and nails when I take a good multi and b-12 combo; thereby, providing me objective evidence that they are working and justifying all the money I am literally flushing down the toilet.

ParticipantRaising kids is scary. We have a really tough time with the youngest (just turned 13), he has what I refer to as “mob mentality”. He is a great kid, very polite, loving, and helpful. However, we have been noticing his behavior around his friends does not necessarily have those same qualities. He has one friend who seems to really bring out the worst, we don’t let that boy come over to our house anymore (the other boy on the surface does not seem bad, but the behavior of ours around this other boy is intolerable). I check the texts and e-mails and saw a series of F-you type texts between the boys and did a reply all text informing them I was going to track down their parents and show them the texts if I ever saw it again. We had a talk with our son, but geez it is just non stop.
I think your boy is totally normal, does not sound like a bully or bullying behavior. From the sounds of the other dad, perhaps there are some deeper insecurities going on at home and he “told” his dad perhaps for a reaction/attention from his dad. A tough one for kids, the breach of trust amongst your peers goes deep; the fine line of what to tell your parents and what not to. We tell our kids we want them to tell us everything, but maybe as protective parents we don’t always have the ability to take a step back and know when to let the kids work it out themselves.
Anyway, I feel for you on this one. Use it as a good opportunity to dialogue with your son.

ParticipantWhat is worse is the people who buy them and then hand them out….we just got the notification that our 13 year olds school pictures are available for purchase. He has a stupid t-shirt on and I asked my husband if he knew when picture day was and why did he let him wear that stupid shirt….we don’t plan on buying, so whatever. Although I guess the grandparents still love to receive them.

ParticipantI watched the video and it looks bad and I would not defend nor condone that behavior. However, I must say not all Carlsbad cops are bad. I lived in Carlsbad for years (now next door in Oceanside) and have been pulled over there, the cop was very nice and respectful and let me go with a warning. Years later I got married in Carlsbad and our wedding party was loud and went late, the cops showed up multiple times and could not have been nicer. We even took pictures with them.

ParticipantHey BG, sold the Prius myself in a matter of days to the first guy to look at. I bought it used for a great deal and sold it for near what I paid, so can’t complain. I don’t drive much so it was nearly 5 years old with less than 44,000 miles.
My new car is LOADED (so was my prius), I have the premium, sport, and comm packages came with NAV (large screen) and even have a subwoofer (I don’t even know what that is). I will admit that so far I think the nearly 5 year old Japanese technology is much more intuitive and advanced than current day state of the art German tech. I have only had the car a few days and am still trying to figure stuff out.
Not sure yet what my personal MPG will be, but the car is rated for up to 32 with the AWD (35 without). The Prius averaged 52 and the previous 4runner averaged 18 (which was painful).

ParticipantI did it, sold the Prius and bought a GLA 250. I test drove pretty much all the competition! The new lexus SUV was really nice, similarly equipped a bit more money, and a bit larger, personally, I HATE the front grill and could not get over how much it disturbs me. The little lexus CT 200h hybrid is again a nice car, but style wise just not doing it for me (on the flip side one of my friends has decided she loves it and is selling her Prius and getting one), we looked at the audi 3 (not a fan), and the BMW 1 and 3, not really what I am looking for (fyi the new BMW 1 is coming out in a few weeks and sounds interesting with some really good deals on the current 1 series, but I think it looks similar to the audi 3). I even looked at the Mazda lineup they have a 3, 5, and 7, which are actually really nice but the 3 is too small and the 5 loaded ends up being nearly the same price. I really liked the Toyota highlander, but it is way too big for me and the hybrid is expensive.
Overall for looks I preferred the Mercedes GLA 250, just my preference. Gas mileage, performance, and price were also great, so for me the clear winner was the GLA.
I will say that all of the dealerships I went to were HUNGRY!!! The deals were fantastic, I got a fully loaded AWD MB for about $10,000 off MSRP and I really think that the Lexus and BMW dealerships were just as open to deals. Well except for Toyota Highlander, no deal there.

ParticipantBG I actually really disliked the 4-runner! It had been my dream car for so long, then I drove it for a year and it was an uncomfortable tak! I had bought that one used at a good deal and turned around and sold it, so no money lost there. Bought the Prius trying to be practical, actually it has been a great car and other than me being completely SoCal frivolous and deciding I want this Mercedes I would keep it! The dogs fit really well, I put a hitch on it for the bike rack and I really would say it has been a great car(hint hint anybody want to buy a Prius). My hubby has a SUV AWD work car, so it is paid for (all gas and maintenance and insurance) through his work and we take it everywhere.
I think maybe I am having a midlife crisis.

Participant“Most people seeking car advice though have already made up their minds and want confirmation from others that it is a good buy.”
This is very true 😉
I am going for it, we are getting the AWD version, although coming from a Prius nearly any car would be a “sportier” drive.

ParticipantI have a coworker/friend that just moved down here from San Rafael Bay area last year, he lives in a 4 or 5 plex dump across from the beach in Oceanside and pays nearly $2400.
He wants to move and likes my area near Calaveras open space preserve. I found a rental in same townhouse complex I moved out of 5 years ago ( I had lived there for ~2 years)I paid $1,500 for 2/2 with full 2 car garage and fenced yard that allowed my big dog, today same street 2/2 is asking $2,500.

Participantwe installed pool solar last year and love it. My contractor was Jason with Custom Solar his contact number is (951) 259-9837.
The cost for pool solar was about $3,300. I don’t remember all the details except I interviewed a bunch of folks and really liked Jason. If I remember correctly he could offer anything the big folks do, but it is his own business and his overhead and therefore costs seemed to be significantly less. Plus his accent just cracked me up and he did a great job.
I am a big wimp, hubby and kids/dogs will get in the pool year round, I would prefer it closer to 90!
Good luck!

ParticipantCall HLS. I knew nothing and he educated me and made sure I understood my decisions rather than told me what to do. He spent a tremendous amount of time with me when I bought my first house and when I refinanced it and I sold it and bought my second house. He is insanely knowledgeable and was so amazing to deal with! Did several transactions with him over the years (have never even met him in person). Even with a few hiccups along the way highly recommend HLS.

ParticipantWe have been facing same dilemma, although have had same tenants for going on 5 years. This past year they were having some marriage problems and husband took over responsibility for paying rent….he is ALWAYS late (only by a few days and it is consistent, he and my husband text back and forth over it, so we plan for it now). Therefore, he ends up sending rent with $100 late fee and we have not raised the rent.
I really think that having good long term tenants has made us lazy. I know we could get a few hundred more a month for the place, but we cover all expenses plus and do nothing….to me it is totally worth not raising the rent to keep them as long as we can.

ParticipantI have been living in an HOA community for the past 2 years. I am not involved, I don’t attend HOA meetings (I keep intending to), but I would resent my money being spent irresponsibly and assume most of us care about a lawsuit that may cost money. I would want to know. Do you have a central mailbox area? We have several in our community and I see info flyers attached to those. Even if they were taken down, likely many people would see them before they were removed.
In my opinion, if you knock on doors, introduce yourself as a concerned neighbor, have a simple and objective flyer stating the facts and contact info, I would think that at least a percentage of your neighbors would be interested, I certainly would. -
