ParticipantIn SoCal, Suburbs have a way of turning into big cities, then your back home again and have to search for a new burb.
Basically in most cases in California suburbs don’t die, they just turn into cities.

ParticipantI remember walking out my front door and hiking through the mountains and building tree forts etc.
Had a blast

ParticipantYea but should not everyone live in downtown condo where they can bike to work?
Just kidding..
The-Shoveler
ParticipantI could see an open source Sports car that would take on the best BMW’s etc… that could be assembled maybe for 20K or less.
Man this is going to be a wild ride,

ParticipantThe question I would ask is what kind of environment do YOU or YOUR family need!!
Also what is your time frame, are you close to retirement ? or just starting.
There are no set answers, but most will think their solution is best…
At worst they will apply their logic to YOUR situation. I even know people who bought at the top of the market but for them it was the best solution.
Others who did not just to lose it all in the stock market.
There is no one correct answer.

ParticipantYep I guess for home use normally expensive Small plastic parts would be a good use or for those who live out in the sticks like me even common plastic parts needed to fix stuff would be good.
But really
I think the elephant in the room is local shops with industrial grade metal capable 3d printers are going to be the most disruptive application of the tech.
Can you imagine a Home depot in say the size of a strip mall store or auto-parts store where you could just download the idem you want and then go pick it up or have it shipped.I could see custom Auto Manufactures popping up like flower shops one day.
Hmmm come to think of it maybe not Home Depot, cement bricks stuff like that is not going to work well.
The-Shoveler
ParticipantYea I think the 3D printing thing is going to be huge!
But I don’t think it will be in the average home
anytime soon making replacement parts for your car.
But I can see these being used in just in time manufacturing big time (Automation anyone?).Maybe even at local shops where you can order a quality part (quality materials) and pick it up in a few minutes/hours etc…
I just don’t think the quality will be there in the home market for quite some time yet, maybe never.
This was started in my home town BTW, (Go Valencia)

ParticipantGeez haven’t you heard, Manufacturing is starting to return to the U.S.A in a big way, the Robot’s and the hand full of Automation people that know how to set them up are busier than ever!!
Even in China Automation is starting to have a big impact..

Participant

Actually it’s about 15/18 miles (as a crow flies) depending on where you are to the coast, I have gotten to the beach in 35 minutes sometimes from TV.
Ama-a-a-azing, shoveler. In the late 90’s, early ’00’s, I kept seeing articles in the U/T (about overbuilding in Riv Co) stating that Moreno Valley was 60+ mi one way to work (LA area?) for most of its dwellers. Is that 60 mi round trip or 60 mi one way?
In this case I think we are talking about retired people BUT!!!
It Depends, LOL, there are quite a few who work local, I even know several who commute FROM SD to Temecula for work.
Even the ones who work in L.A. will a lot of the time catch the train in Corona.
But there are the extreme commuters as well yep.Yet A lot of them only go as far south as Carlsbad others catch the bus at the mall and commute via the metro station in Oceanside.
I don’t live in TV anymore but I do Telecommute.
Also KB homes just announced that there are starting several projects all over the IE
I guess they see some demand.The-Shoveler
ParticipantI know quite a few who own their homes (mortgage free) getting by quite nicely on SS and no where near 1+ Million in savings (yea OK their not driving new BMW’s but they are doing quite well)

Participant

You left out the casino, They have penny machines where you can spend the better part of a day on just a few dollars.
I actually won about 6 dollars off one of the machines once.
Yeah, and the thick cig smoke from the “smoking section” comes out of the ceiling vents in the non-smoking section to pollute ALL patrons’ air.
Gawd, I can’t stand casinos.
They do filter a lot of that out but yea that is a point.
I was actually Joking about spending that much time in the Casino, But I did go in there once, put two dollars in a penny machine, I was not meaning to spend that much time finally I gave up trying to lose my two dollars and cashed out my 6 dollar winnings LOL.The-Shoveler

ParticipantWell prior to 1893 Temecula was actually part of San Diego county (well the area that is now TV anyway).
But I think almost everyone still considers it a suburb of SD even though it is in SWRC.
