ParticipantWhy does your headline say “sciences?”
Just because the government doesn’t fund it doesn’t mean it won’t exist.
So to answer your question:
Science: It depends.
Some things are needed by the people but not profitable so industry won’t deliver, in those cases, I’m OK with the government stepping up. 200 million for autism research in this years budget is an example of where I support it. The answer to that and many other diseases may not end up being something a company can sell, so there’s not a business model, but solving certain medical riddles will ultimately benefit the populace and the government’s future budget. A good deal of these grants go to universities, other innovations tend to spin off from these research projects and many of those lead to more revenues for the government, so it’s easy to make that argument.
Art: No.
Sorry, it’s a consumer product, let the consumer pay for it. If nobody wants to pay to see it or buy it, then we can live without it.

Participant
First you gotta get past my grad school alma mater. Dont think it will be easy. Temple plays a very tough non-league schedule against other Philly schools. those games are always tournament environments. FWIW, I was offered free tix to the game on Saturday (my best friend’s father is a personal friend of the TU President and ofered to call him for us) but we decided to wait for the Anaheim games as we expect to get through SDSU ourselves.
We shall see. I’m not saying Temple will be easy or guaranteeing a win by the Aztecs, but I fear you may have passed up your last chance to see your team this year, at best it’s a 50-50, I doubt temple will be favored, hold off on those tickets to Anaheim for a bit.

Participant

It’s like losing your virginity…
Sorry to hear that. Maybe you did it wrong?
There’s no maybe, I definitely did it wrong. I’d love to say how much progress I’ve made, but I haven’t, I’ve just made an art form out of doing it wrong.

ParticipantIt happened, SDSU finally won a game in the NCAA tournament. First time in school history. I’m trying not to look past Temple and at UCON, but I am. UCOn scares the crap out of me, hell it all scares me. But no matter what, I’m OK with whatever happens from here on in, because we finally punched our dance card. It’s like losing your virginity or getting your drivers license, it’s rite of passage, from here there will be great adventures, even better stories and probably a few mishaps along the way. But life is supposed to be that way and after 90 years of Aztec basketball, we’ve got a full tank of gas and a case of condoms, bring it on, we have finally arrived at the party.
