svelteParticipantno mention of what she wants.
If she wants it, go for it.
If she is ambivalent, I’d say no. At 77, it will be just a few short years (if even that) before she needs assistance. May even need to move to a seniors center.
A house will complicate everything. If she’s happy renting (she apparently is having done it her whole life) I say let it ride.
svelteParticipantYeah, you’re not out of range. That’s close to what I eat each day.
Of course you can OD on anything, but I don’t think you’re anywhere near the limit.
Also, I meant to respond to your query awhile back…whether it was OK to do upper body exercises more than every other day. Like you I had always heard to take a one-day break in between.
Then this year I said screw that and went to every day. It has made a huge difference! My upper body is really getting larger! And I’ve felt no ill-effects from not giving it a day breather in between. To the contrary, I actually think I have less soreness now!
I’m surprised…makes me wonder if the real body builders were giving us a bum steer to keep us out of their league. ha ha!
Also – down a full 15 lbs now. Gonna try for 20 then I will be well within recommended weight range.
My wife and I were talking this weekend – going on this Weight Watcher app diet has been a watershed moment for us. We’re never going back to eating the way we did. We are so much more in tune to how much our body actually needs vs what we were giving it. One of our life’s great epiphanies…
svelteParticipantFound it.

svelteParticipant

come up with a kit you can sell someone to grow their own on their patio. much like the antfarm idea: buy the hardware and then the ants ( seeds) will be mailed to you. ie. grow your own ‘tomato’ plant and social media market it can be used for other plants too ;)
You know that isn’t a bad idea.

Obviously you guys didn’t read High Times back in the day. There was a guy on there who advertised “rose terrariums” in that magazine and made a mint. He actually bought a huge spread in Rancho Santa Fe and planted rose bushes all over his property…seems kinda tongue in cheek to me.
Anyway, the RSF neighbors threw a fit about all the rose bushes. They were working on making him take them out. I kinda lost track of the situation after that. Not sure if they were successful or what the final outcome was.
As I recall, the feds were starting to come after the guy for the “rose terrariums” also.
A well formed Google search would probably turn up several articles on all of this.
svelteParticipant

Not answer to your questions; but I’d say trade it in for s Toyota or Honda. Take it to one of their dealerships.
They aren’t any better. I had an Acura that went to the stealer many times. Sup par service there too.
My wife’s got an 06 Ford. My co-worker has an 07 Honda. The co-worker has spent just as much on her car as my wife. That toyonda advice is just outdated.
svelteParticipant
Buy an expensive watch and blue velvet seat covers for the truck. Done.
lol!
svelteParticipantlol – i agree comic genius! Great posts scaredy!
svelteParticipant
but i cannot have funw ith money. that’s the issue. it triggers enormous feelngs of guilt, thinking about spending it on jewelery or frivolities…
For some people, stackin’ $$ high in the bank brings them the greatest joy. If that’s the case, who am I to judge? You ARE enjoying your money, just in a different way than I do.
But going for the $100 watch…I would warn against that.
When I was about 10, I wanted a blue velvet bedspread. Trying to analyze that from my adult eyes, I have no idea why. I just did.
I told my mom and next time we were at the store, I pointed out the one I wanted. It was expensive. She talked me into this blue shag-carpet looking bedspread at a fraction of the cost. We bought it. I hated it. We might as well have bought nothing because it brought me more pain than joy.
That is when I learned that if there is something I’m really set on, something of far lesser quality is probably not worth buying as a substitute.
svelteParticipantRarely do you see a clear cut case in business where outright fraud was committed for so long by such a large company.
It’s been weeks now and this case still floors me. BP, well I thought they tried hard to remedy their error and I don’t think it was intentional anyway.
But this one. To purposely put in cheat software. Purposely!
I want Volkswagen to pay dearly. I really do.
svelteParticipantI’ve seen too many folks die or become handicapped at an early age, robbing them of their chance to enjoy their money.
I don’t think it is good for kids to inherit an insane amount of money.
So we set aside a good chunk of our income each month for old age, pay our bills, and whatever’s left we spend.
Have fun with it, you’ve earned it. And as you said, if the worst happens all that’ll mean is you’re broke again.
I was just as happy when I was broke as I am now. The Beatles were right.
svelteParticipantThat’s why I don’t have earthquake insurance.
I checked the maps and I’m in a low-risk area for earthquakes. Most of my home value is in the land, not the structure. So why would I pay outrageous premiums for something that will pay very little if I need it?
Makes no sense.
svelteParticipant
you cannot outrun the fork.

This is absolutely true. It takes both exercise and diet. We’ve been gym rats for years, but finally the eating started catching up with us.
For just over a month now, we’ve had the Weight Watchers app on our phone…it allots a certain number of points each day. We’ve each lost over 10 pounds in a month!
This app has made us much more aware of what each thing we eat is costing us, and our choices have become much, much healthier – and fewer – as a result. On top of that, no food is off limits…ya just have to pay for it with points. lol. What we’ve found is that we have started to eat way more fruits and veggies (0 points!) so we can stockpile points for a nice dinner out on weekends, of whatever calls out to us at the restaurant.
I know, weight watchers of yore does not sound appealing. Believe me we would not be doing this if we had to go to meetings or publicly weigh in. All that is no longer required. It’s all between me and my cell phone app now. And a buddy – I think this works best if you do it in pairs. My wife’s encouragement is key, as is my encouragement of her.
here is the article that got us started. It reads like an ad, but we’ve found it to be totally true.

svelteParticipantThey just admitted that Audis have the same cheat software:
“Volkswagen’s board suspended the research and development heads of its core VW brand, its Audi arm, and the sports car Porsche division, sources told Reuters. Meanwhile, Audi reportedly announced that 2.1 million cars from the luxury brand came with the software designed to cheat on emission tests.”
svelteParticipant

Treehugger, I say go for it.
I’m not much on SUVs or MBs, but every time I see one of these GLA 250s I pause and look – very nice design! If we were in the market for a smaller SUV, the GLA would probably be the first thing I test drove.
If you get it, you’ll have to let us know how you like it.
Well, I haven’t yet seen a GLA 250 “in person,” svelte, but I think the *new* (2013 forward) Lexus RX350 F-Sport just screams “Look at me!”
And I think the design of the not-yet-released 2016 model is just incredible … extremely bold and attention getting.

Where do I begin.
Just stop pushing the Toyota bs! It’s as if Mr Toyoda inserted a microchip in your brain that says buy nothing but his products! Step back and look objectively! They are no better and no worse than any other brand!!
When someone starts a thread about a certain product, they really aren’t asking to be steered towards your sacred cow!
And some of us – me in particular – cannot stand Toyota or Lexus. There will never, ever be one in my garage…that’s how much I hate that company.
Lastly, believe it or not, not all people buy great looking cars to get attention. We buy cars because we like them, not what other folks think, and I suspect a lot of other folks do too. One of my cars has a reputation as an old geezer car, but I don’t really give a flyin f. I enjoy it, it brings me pleasure, so I’ll continue to own and drive it and smile the whole time. Whether it gets attention or not.
