Not answer to your questions; but I’d say trade it in for s Toyota or Honda. Take it to one of their dealerships.
October 16, 2015 at 2:54 PM #790290plmParticipantGood advice but other than incredibly expensive repair bills, its a really fun car to drive so I plan on keeping it.

Very knowledgeable. He did a bunch of repairs on my 3-series and quoted less then everyone else I asked.October 16, 2015 at 4:07 PM #790300plmParticipantThanks for all the recommendations. Replacing the fuse seems enough to fix it for now but I’m thinking of using some other place in the future. The service adviser we had before retired and service just isn’t very good there anymore.

Ugh… Yeah, that does not surprise me.
October 16, 2015 at 9:50 PM #790293CoronitaParticipantYes. Take it somewhere else. Go to either allgermanauto in Escondido or go to midnightoil in miramar.
I’ve never made.it out of a dealership service with something else breaking after. So I avoid shops if I can. And if I can’t, I take it to a reliable independent.
Allgermanauto is pretty well known in the bmw SD cca group. They have an excellent reputation, and one of my current workers is friends with one of the specialists there. I would highly recommend them.
People also had a good experience with midnightoil. I have not used them personally recently though.
You can look at fcpeuro to see if it is diy.
October 17, 2015 at 8:35 AM #790336AnonymousGuestIf you are looking for something similar to a 5 or 7 series Beamer, the Hyundai Genesis sedan and the Equus are worthy candidates. Both are RWD, and in many years they used the same ZF Friedrichshafen transmission that BMW uses on the 5s and 7s.
They’re not perfect, but it’s 90% of the car for 50% of the money, and – with the 10 year warranty – probably 20% of the lifetime upkeep costs.
