I don’t care much what my image is. Or what my country’s image is.
Not saying I don’t care at all, but for the most part I care what I think about me. Sometimes folks comment that I do things to be flashy. I respond NO I would do that even if no one was around. What you think of it I couldn’t care less.
svelteParticipant
Dont get me wrong. I call 911 when im in trouble. But if i had bern dealt a different hand i prolly would avoid the cops
Can’t say that I seek them out either, best to stay clear cuz I just never know if i’m doing something on the edge of illegal – why tempt fate.
It’s just that the lyric “f the police” implies that they are all bad – and they are not. Just a few bad apples. Just as bad as saying all lawyers are ambulance chasers.
Do they need to be weeded out? Absolutely! no question about that.
They do exist just as bad pilots exist. Such as the one who tried to land in Pakistan with his landing gear up, killing 97 of 99 on board this month.
svelteParticipantWell lets not lump all police together.
I have a few that are close personal friends of mine and I can tell you that, at least my police friends, are very intelligent, warm, and funny people. And I can assure you they are not racists in the least. Far from it.
Are there bad apples? Sure. But the majority that I’ve personally met are great folks.
The one common trait I do see is that they like to step in if they see an injustice…I’m more picky and let sleeping dogs lie until it gets to be too bad to ignore. They step in way earlier than I do. Which spooks me sometimes but they are probably way more used to it and know they can have their uniformed buddies on the scene in just a couple of minutes. Me, I can’t say that.
svelteParticipant
It should apply to most public pools, but …”Why you should never get in a las vegas pool”
His twitter thread was entertaining to read.

Include Las Vegas hot tubs in that category also. I learned that the hard way.
svelteParticipantI think the reason this board gets busy when times get tumultuous is that we’re all trying to figure out how to handle it. We realize things have changed and need to make decisions in a hurry.
Most of us on this board are the type that like to think things through and evaluate the data before deciding on a path forward.
During tumultuous times, and especially this pandemic, it has been hard to get real data and even harder to make sense of the data we do get. So we look to each other for interpretations.
That’s my 2 cents anyway.

America is the greatest!
But seriously, it’s almost hopeless. America has embraced a culture of ignorance and science denial.
Have you even visited another country, or is all of your knowledge from online articles?
Ignorance is not unique to the United States. Take a gander at Boris Johnson.
svelteParticipant

Matches what I’m seeing. There are 3 california zip codes I watch just out of curiosity. Asking prices are way up from this time last year, inventory way down.
That’s only because inventories are way down. Just wait for the recession to get felt, state and localities to lay-off, companies do operate more efficiently and not rehire, etc…..
Certainly possible…
what if they relax lending standards and lower rates further?
Also certainly possible…
Life’s just one big gamble. Place ye bets, laddies!
svelteParticipantAlso, has anybody noticed that now that there is the Zillow Offer concept where they’ll buy your house, they sandbag the estimate on your house?
My house consistently shows up at a 5% discount from all the other homes of the same size in my area.
Kinda sneaky.

svelteParticipantI hope he has a recording of that laugh.
I do have my father’s voice on the many videos he recorded, and I’m thankful for that.
I’m also recording my grandchildren’s voices as often as I can because, once they grow up, the gentle innocence of their childhood will be lost. I like to place my phone in the room on record and just let the natural conversation happen. It is so awesome. People are more guarded if they know they are being recorded.
I often wonder what Lincoln’s voice sounded like. I would have loved to hear it.
I’ve often told my wife that if she had had a husky voice we probably wouldn’t be married. Voice is a big deal to me. I don’t know why.
Having a Tequila Sunrise tonight for the first time in decades. They taste every bit as good as I remember. Fantastic.

My favorite style of suburban house is mid century modern with sliding glass doors.
Those were “invented” in California. That’s what we should go back to.
MCM have their problems. Flat roofs leak and the large amount of glass is not very energy efficient.
While i would agree the west popularized the MCM style, I’m not sure saying it was invented here is quite accurate. It is largely based on Frank Lloyd Wright’s Usonian houses from the 1930s that were designed and built in the midwest.

The govt did lie for decades about there being no potential medical use for weed and locking up lots of people for possession.
It’s enough to make one understand why one would never believe anything the Gov ever said again.
It wasnt really a conspiracy. It was just willful in your face ignorance for political ends.
+1

It is tacky but I like it anyway.
Whoa! What is that intended to compensate for? This reminds me of the old thread, for this property

The basic style for the Amarillo exterior is just fine. There is just too much brick for my taste or for most of us here in California. Less brick and more _____ (not sure) would have worked better.
Brick is very very popular in the TX/OK area and many homes out there have their exterior completely brick. To them, it looks quite normal and fine. They question California’s abundance of stucco and to their eye, that can be quite tacky.
Neither view is right or wrong – it is what it is. If you grew up in TX/OK, you’d probably be brick-centric yourself.
The front elevations of gzz’s linked Plano homes seem quite photoshopped. Skies, windows and drives at a minimum, but a lot of the rest as well. And it is too busy for my taste. The interior looks pretty interesting though. I note those are very narrow homes and look california-esque in that respect. They have a lot of room in TX. Interesting that they are squeezing homes together now too.
