117 degrees in St George today
Might as well live in Vegas! At least there is something to do there!

My other engineer from San Diego (young person) decided to not renew his SD lease and wants to try working out of his RV that will be going across the country for the remainder of the year. I called him the “Nomadic Software Engineer”… lol.
I’ve watched many, many of those young nomads in an RV clips on YouTube. Most of them bail after awhile. While it looks appealing, it wears on people after awhile. I give it a year, perhaps two, and the nomad will be looking to set up permanent camp.
svelteParticipant

When companies give a salary range, they typically use the higher number as bait…they’ll try and start you off at the lower number (which isn’t too shabby, granted).
Probably won’t work in this market.
If it is true that it won’t work in today’s market, then that must mean you hired the 4 mobile engineers below for $225K each?
Anyway, I finished hiring my 4 mobile engineers. I have 1 floater position left either android or ios. Hiring was suppose to complete end of February. It’s middle of July….
svelteParticipantWhen companies give a salary range, they typically use the higher number as bait…they’ll try and start you off at the lower number (which isn’t too shabby, granted).

The population is exploding as new residents come in from everywhere, especially CA. Because St. George schools are largely open, teachers tell of CA parents desperate to get their kids into in-person learning, so some are living in St. George motels in order to do so.
This just in.
“The exodus of Californians forecast in recent news headlines isn’t likely to happen soon, UC San Diego researchers reported in a survey released Wednesday.”
“Another facet of the study, conducted by Stanford and Cornell Universities, analyzed two decades of Franchise Tax Board Data and found no evidence that millionaires are fleeing the state, despite increased taxes on high-wage earners.
A separate analysis from Cornell University gave a different spin to the parable of the Golden State. It showed that California’s share of U.S. venture capital dollars rose from one-third of the national total in 1995 to nearly half by 2021, far eclipsing other large states, including New York, Florida and Texas.”
Record amount given to California schools this year, and full statewide funding for TK – TK is amazing, I’ve watched a family member go through it and he really was better prepared for school.

Utah ranks 51st in school funding level, dead last. It spends half – half! – the national average per pupil.

And to sit here and brag about Utah schools is astounding. Just astounding.

svelteParticipantdamn if I could have dinner with scaredy and escoguy I feel as if I would gain life changing insights.
I’m not joking.
I love the way those minds think. I love thinking outside the box.
There is so much more to life than the commonly accepted status quo.
And thanks to the incoming generations. The changes they are bringing are exciting yet a bit scary. To change is difficult. Not to change is fatal.
Happy 4th to you and yours.

Well Champlain South wasn’t old when you were in HS.
Champlain South was built in 1982.
Let’s say you’re 40. You were in high school 1994-98. Champlain South was 12-16 years old at that time.

What’s the point of earning a lot of money if you have to live in a crap location.
Doesn’t have to be a crap location, you can probably get a condo in Surfside, FL pretty cheap about now.
No way that tower fell on its own. FBI plot.
The other towers prob. Cheap now.
Making me reconsider downtown SD highrise
Look at this! The penthouse, which is now a ground level pile of rubble, sold for $2.8M seven weeks ago!
From the ad: “This condo has endless potential for one-third the price of new construction units in area!”
That has to be the worst timing ever.

Agreed, it boggles my mind also.
On top of that – why does anybody think that governments are going to let untraceable money stand? It’s enabling the ransomware craze and you can bet it will enable worse things than that…governments will be left with no choice other than to take action.

The new Ford F150 Lightning can do Vehicle to Home eventually and many vehicles may have this, but that means you lose car power if you needed to drive and no idea how long that will take to come out.
I read that the Lightning has more storage than a powerwall!
It will be quite amazing 10-20 years out when people keep old beater cars around as battery backups for their house. Car might be beat to hell, but as long as the battery still holds energy, let’s keep that baby around!
svelteParticipantI don’t think I’ve personally heard anyone say derogatory things about Asians or Jews.
I’ve heard derogatory comments about women, blacks, gays, middle eastern people, and people from India. I guess people from India are now classified as Asian, but I didn’t learn that fact until about 5 years ago – and I’ve known many, many people from India who never referred to themselves as Asian ever in our conversations! I’ve heard no derogatory comments about Japanese, Chinese, Filipino, Vietnamese, or Korean.
I can’t really even recall derogatory comments about any of the above in the last 20 years, with the exception of women. That seems to be the last category that is getting relief.
Maybe I surround myself with folks who don’t think in terms of stereotypes as much, I don’t know.
