svelteParticipantHoly crap! I go away for an hour and there are like 10 more posts!

Sometimes integrity has to trump your heart.
I strongly disagree. Integrity Always trumps the heart.
I probably should have said “Usually”, but “Always” is way too black and white.
After all, if “Always” was used nobody could marry a Christian because their integrity is compromised through their fabrications about Santa Claus and the Easter Bunny! 🙂

Most importantly, your wife doesn’t want to risk the loss of sex life for your hair. And she’s the only woman who really matters, after all. ;)
Absolutely.
I should also point out that she always wondered why I was spending so much time fretting over hair loss. It never mattered to her. She’s with UC Gal on the stay away from toupee/comb over.
The reason why I was concerned was that by 25 my widow’s peak was at least a finger long. Hard to take in the mid-20s. I also felt (in retrospect wrongly) it was affecting my job search after I graduated, so I looked into alternatives. Propecia was new and all over the news so it was definitely something I considered.
By my mid 30s hair loss was no longer a concern and after I started shaving, I was like wtf why did I spend so much worry over nothing? In her infinite wisdom, my wife said nothing – no “well you should have listened to me” left her lips.
svelteParticipantFunny how we seem to dwell on the companies who choose to leave but not those who choose to stay:
http://fox5sandiego.com/2014/04/10/petco-to-move-headquarters-rancho-bernardo/#axzz30HYnz2X2
“U-T San Diego quoted the state Office of Business and Economic Development as saying that Petco turned down offers to move to other states.”
If San Diego / California was really doing that poorly, housing prices wouldn’t be jumping.
Another gauge I use: I have two college age kids and neither has had a problem finding part-time jobs while in school.
svelteParticipant90K in debt would give me pause – I would probably have to analyze whether it was an anomaly or a pattern likely to reoccur.
However, the deceit would be the dealbreaker. If I felt she was not telling the truth and would not admit she wasn’t telling the truth, I’d run for the hills. If she wasn’t telling the truth and then admitted to it, I’d put her on probation and probably watch her very closely for a couple of years. If it ever happened again, I’d be out of there.
Sometimes integrity has to trump your heart.
svelteParticipant
I don’t know if that would happen as much if I were bald or not? I am sure it’s attitude more than anything.
Bingo!
It’s all in how you act and how you treat them. Express genuine interest in them, and don’t start every sentence with “I”.
Making a good first impression comes down to a few simple rules. (1) SMILE (most important), (2) make eye contact, (3) say hi, (4) compliment something about them, preferably something they have specifically chosen (clothes, jewelry, shoes) and not something they were born with. It is amazing how many men can’t do these simple things.

Even though warnings are not actually side effects( maybe it takes time) , injesting anything that comes with those kinds or warnings isn’t going to happen for the sake of my hair, it’s pretty darn serious in my mind.
What can I say? it’s all about vanity.
But seriously, propecia (brand name) for hair is the same medication for BPH (enlarge prostage), but 1mg generic finasteride for hair vs. 5mg for BPH.
…
Finasteride 1mg grows back hair and keeps the prostage from enlarging which is good for the long term. The light dose has no side effects on me.
.
I think the prior poster was worried about the decreased sex drive.
And that reminded me: that’s why I decided against Propecia when I did my research. As soon as we read that, my wife said that well the decision is made – no Propecia for you. (I agreed – that is a pretty important part of our life!)
Not worth the risk.
Not sure you guys have ever thought of it this way, but what human is a woman’s favorite? They all gather around them like flies.
A baby! And babies are bald!
Would most women rather have a man with a full head of hair? Probably in most cases. But I have to come to realize it is not the major factor for most women. I usually compare it to the way guys view big breasts. Given everything was equal between two women (that never happens btw), most guys would probably pick the one with larger breasts. But it is not the major factor in who they are with – I know it’s not for me.

My locks are still intact, with a touch of gray. Since the wife prefers the hair thing, we’ve talked about color. If we ever go that way, I hope it’s waaay down the road.
A touch of gray looks distinguished. If I had a full head of hair with a touch of gray, I’d probably keep it too.
Where I would make the jump is a full head of gray hair or a bald spot. In either of those cases, I think most men are better off shaved. Depends on the shape of the face and head of course.
One problem with coloring your hair is keeping the roots touched up. I tried shaved head and a beard for awhile and that is the problem I started to run across. It got to be more work that it was worth as more gray crept in.
I guess what I’m saying is don’t live in fear of going bald. There are more advantages to shaving your head than you’d think!
svelteParticipant
Ok, I do take propecia for my thinning hair. It works! It would suck to go bald. I believe vanity is a sin that could send me straight to hell… but oh, well…
I did many things to slow/cover/ignore my receding hair line.
Then one day it could be ignored no longer and I said f*&* it I’m shaving my head. My wife was shocked. And it felt so out there, so exposed. Like I was walking around naked, only in a legal manner.
And it really was shocking the reaction. I feel people treat me differently. Some are a little intimidated I think because it is such an extreme look…they think I’m capable of just about anything – in the positive and negative direction. Until they get to know me then they realize I’m just laid back. 🙂
And contrary to what Hair Club For Men and other financially motivated endeavors would have you believe, there appear to be more women who think a shaved scalp looks virile and brave than who think it is a negative. I’ve had many compliments and hands rubbing my head. They never ran their hands through my hair when I had it!
The maintenance…I think I’ve gained a half-hour a day…no shampooing, drying, combing, barbers, all that other nonsense. Run a razor over my head in the shower and out the door I go…
Finally, those men my age with a full head of hair…it’s all gray now. They look sooo much older than I do (I hadn’t noticed until my wife pointed it out!).

svelteParticipantI’ve never really understood Costco and the legion of Costco fanatics.
It confuses me on many levels. We’ve had a free membership (given to us) for over a decade now and we’ve probably been in Costco five to ten times.
First, with just my wife and I at home buying in bulk is a huge waste of money. Sure the price per unit is lower, but we’d throw out most of it. I guess if you have a large family Costco may make sense. But I also can’t help but feel large containers contribute to overeating.
Second, I’m pretty particular about exactly what I buy (purchase after oodles of research) so getting a great deal on whatever random TV they have in stock doesn’t appeal to me much. If it isn’t the exact one I wanted, then the great deal would still leave me less than satisfied.
Third is the checkout line. I’ve never been in there when it didn’t feel like an overcrowded swap meet up by the checkout stands. Just pandemonium with a lot of wasted time. I want to zip in and zip out.
It may work for big families….other than that it leaves a big question mark above my head.
svelteParticipant
How much did lawyering up cost your friends Svelte?
It’s not a topic that they like talking about for obvious reasons. They kinda grumble when discussing it.
If I can find a way to gently ask in a conversation I will, otherwise I will continue to tread lightly…
svelteParticipant
Yeah I could pay someone to unclog the toilets or spend hours knocking down weeds, but then I’d have no purpose!
You mean your wife hasn’t helped you discover your Special Purpose yet? 🙂
svelteParticipant
No individual owes any explanation of beliefs.
But when Christians as a group claim special status for providing the principles that founded this nation, it doesn’t seem unreasonable to question just what those principles and beliefs are, when they are often asking that the religion guide public policy and be prominent in the public square.
Agreed.
Those persons wanting Christian symbols on public land conveniently forget that a reason people took the time to cross the pond to begin with was for religious freedom.
svelteParticipantThis is not an uncommon problem. Here is what has happened to a couple who are close friends of ours, prominent members of the coastal community.
They have lived in their house 20+ years. Fence lines had not changed. Mature plants lining their side of the fence on all sides.
Neighbor on one side moved out, new older professional couple moved in. New couple decided to expand their new house, did a lot line survey, low and behold the fence was 5-10 feet (can’t remember) off – our friends had part of their lot.
Words were exchanged, then letters, then both sides lawyered up. New correct fence was erected. Mature plants were ripped out. They are in a dust-settling mode right now after which I am sure construction will begin.

svelteParticipantYou live on the coast, you should go here:

Chuck is a real car guy. I’ve entrusted him with all the cars in my stable and he has yet to scratch a rim. I’ve even ordered custom rims through him.
We sit and talk cars every time I go in.
(PS – I don’t see Chuck in the photo on the web page. Did something happen to Chuck or is he taking the photo?)
