ParticipantI’m with Keith Olbermann on the Prez – every single thing he’s assured us is true has turned out to be false.
So, no suprise then, a couple of days after he pronounced “The American economy is the envy of the world”, everything went to hell in a handbasket.
Complete and utter irony.August 11, 2007 at 12:51 PM in reply to: Bush addresses the nation on the economy and the stock market tanks. Irony #73447speedingpullet

ParticipantThis one always makes me giggle – its a land lot in Topanga, Los Angeles – with a small child and what looks like a rocket launcher in the distance.
As its been on the market for 344 days, you’d have thought the wee nipper in the photo would have graduated from a Chopper bike to his first car, by now…

ParticipantI’m also a new convert to Dr Housing Bubble, plus, as I live in L.A, I’ve also taken a liking to Westside Bubble:
http://westside-bubble.blogspot.com/ too.Housing Panic, hmm, I can take it or leave it – I like Keith’s take on the housing Bubble, but disagree with a lot of his opinions on other social issues, and I get pissed offf that he seems to hate the UK so much, despite living there.
Plus, the treadjacking by anonymous loonies on both the left and right fringes gets really dull after a while. The religion-‘n-politics over here is a minnow in comparison to the blue whale over there on HP.Patrick is good too, but I always feel a bit like I’m eavesdropping – they’ve always been nice to me over there, but they are very focussed on the Bay Area, so its hard to relate sometimes.
I’m also a big fan of the Housing Bubble Blog, as I like the national picture it gives. Also, guilty as charged, I do occasionally enjoy ripping seven shades of $hite out of the FBs featured there. That’s where i learnt to spell schadenfreude properly 😉

ParticipantSame in the UK, teeny tiny medieval roads that wind around and about….
Yes, you probably wouldn’t have enough room for the kids, dog and a beachball in one of those, but for short trips, or single-occupancy commuting they look quite attractive.
I keep on debating on whether to get myself a Vespa scooter for exactly the same reason, but am frightened by the terrible driving in L.A – if there was a showdown between me on a Vespa and an inatttentive Escalade driver (especially while talkng on the phone), we all know who’d win…
Another car that’s taking the Uk by storm are these:
http://www.zapworld.com/ZAPWorld.aspx?id=310I like this model in particular, and I believe that Mercedes are bring out a Sports model in the near future.

ParticipantA fascinating read on the differences between rival sects in Islam (and the simliarities between it, Christianity and Judaism) – “No God but God” by Reza Aslan.
Amazon linky:
Being relatively clueless about most religions myself, I found it very interesting.

ParticipantI’d echo others comments on not lending money to friends – it never ends well – unless you’re willing to just donate the money to her (which I’d hazard a guess you don’t want to do).
Urge her (strongly) to sell off the property(s) and see what her financial situation is like after the sale(s). Until then, she’s just in limbo.

ParticipantCouldn’t agree with you more SD!
It never ceases to amaze me that lack of interest in alternative energies, especially here in desertified, sun-drenched SoCal.
Like you, its something I’m intending to install in my house – when we buy – another reason for buying cheap.
