ParticipantWhy harsh? Evaporation of fake wealth is just an opportunity. Bonus points if it bankrupts some Trump supporters.

ParticipantFigure 10+ years for the Chargers to move out, the next recession, an EIS (apparently, the ground may be contaminated due to the tank farm next door), planning, and general NIMBY crap.
Just because there’s a proposal doesn’t mean it will happen quickly.

ParticipantIs Qualcomm going anywhere fast now that the Chargers are slinking off to Hell Ay?

ParticipantI prefer to keep things as simple as possible. Good ‘ol RWD and manual transmission, no complex, heavy AWD crapola. Simple, light, and a bit gutless.

ParticipantWRX is an understeering, front-heavy pile of porcine detritus. BRZ please, k’thx.

ParticipantClicking means a relay vs a solid-state switch. Mechanical relays are arguably better — they provide a lower-resistance path for the control current.
This is important if you’re controlling something like a wall heater that uses a low-voltage thermopile vs a 24V transformer to provide the control current.

ParticipantThat is good for them up there. Is there much in the way of manufacturing up there? I know Buck Knives moved to Idaho for that very reason.
Portland and Seattle both have shipyards and marine manufacturing. Also, aluminium smelting — takes a lot of electricity.

ParticipantWhy? Energy is very cheap in the Pacific Northwest due to a surplus of hydro-electric power.

ParticipantWouldn’t a burglar just wait till you’re not home, kick down the door, or bust a window and steal a few expensive things before the cops had a chance to get there?
Also, not sure if a cloudfree door lock (say one that communicates with a phone via Bluetooth and requires a private key stored on the phone + code entry) would be less secure than an old-school key.

ParticipantIt’s funny. Trump whinges about GM producing cars in Mexico, mostly for Latin American consumption.
But we’re talking about the Cruze hatch. Hatchbacks don’t sell well in the US, but they do sell well outside the US. It wouldn’t pay to run two lines (sad-dan and hatchback) in Ohio, so the cars are made where they can best sell.
The fact that the hatch is imported into the US, and the sad-dan is imported into Latin America increase choices in both markets. If import were more difficult, GM would probably only sell the sad-dan in the US, limiting Americans’ choices in practical cars.
Also, why is it OK for Trump to open hotels worldwide, employ local labor, and cater to foreign customers, but it’s not OK for GM to make cars in Mexico, primarily for Mexican use? Shouldn’t he be happy that American companies are expanding worldwide?
Better than a Chinese firm setting up shop making cars in Mexico, right?

Participant“America First” is an unfortunate term considering it was used by actual Nazi sympathizers in the 30s.

ParticipantI’m not sold on this. It’s $1000 vs $400-600 and has both the disadvantages of a tank and tankless.
Plus it requires 120VAC to operate — if power goes out, no hot water. At least the “inefficient” old tank heaters use a thermopile (gas flame) powered control that works no matter what, and is standardized.
You can buy a Honeywell control box which works for many heaters and swap it in if it fails.

ParticipantNo inspection yet — it takes time for the town to give an appointment. That’s not true that it’s OK if the inspector passed it. It has to work, not leak (long term) and be safe. Inspection is just the minimum standard to meet.
Imagine if they did if for someone else who didn’t have a clue, and a leaky chimney caused a CO leak or fire.
