ParticipantCan’t argue taste (in friends or houses), so I won’t try.

ParticipantThat’s like saying that you can’t comment on Trabant construction quality unless you’ve actually had the good fortune of owning one. There are other ways of finding out — “on your own skin” isn’t the only way.

ParticipantWatchung Reservation?! Where in NJ did you live – I grew up in and around there? Sadly, WR now mostly bans mountain biking, though I’m not sure about actually enforcement of the ban 🙁
For once, I agree with one of your posts. Great gift, and great that it’s all mechanical.

ParticipantIf owners can do the work themselves, then perhaps the “destroyed” tradespeople aren’t needed after all. Time for them to go back to school or move somewhere else. In short: let ’em eat cake — don’t create more regulations for the sake of protecting unneeded jobs.

ParticipantConsidering TB’s sh!te construction quality, the depositors may have been better off reneging, deposit or no.

ParticipantBirmingplumb – are you seriously suggesting that a permit should be required to change a sink washer? If so, with all due respect: you’re insane. Or just want your profession to be protected by law from people who are smart enough to do the work themselves rather than hire a union parasite.
We can’t make everything 100% safe, and accidents will always happen. The water heater example is moot, since a permit/inspection is required in CA. What do you suggest to prevent DIY work? Only making plumbing parts available for sale to licensed tradesmen?

ParticipantStation. Wagon. The real kind. Not one designed for stupid Americans with ego problems who won’t drive a wagon because their mommy drove one in 1985.
The Jetta and Passat wagon are still sold in the cesspit that’s the US auto market, even if pickings are slim.
This being said, I did a 1000-mile trip this week in a car that I paid $2500 for. Nice to see all the pigeons in their leased/borrowed cars and laugh as I pass them.

ParticipantYou could live cheaply in the American “country” as well. But, I know… the French country and the American country just don’t compare.
I’d argue that an older American college town outside of a major metro area would come close. Cheap cost of living, relatively cheap property, fairly nice surroundings, interesting, bright people.

ParticipantActually, I think that ANY one entity attempting to monopolize people’s Internet usage and data storage is extremely dangerous. Not just Google.

ParticipantWeed has been decriminalized in NY for quite a while now 😉

ParticipantActually, the data would probably be available at a single point by design. Makes them easier to subpoena.

ParticipantCorporations are composed of people. Would you be comfortable with any one person looking over your shoulder at all of your Internet usage, email, documents, and searches? That’s what Google is trying to do, basically.
spdrun
ParticipantAnd overly credulous idiots like the poster above deserve attention? Basically, Google gets all of your Internet habits, regardless whether you run a secure browser or install their turdware or not.
PS- bet you wouldn’t call me a monkey to my face, boy. You’re vewwy bwave in your daddy’s basement 😉

ParticipantI agree. I just wish that Google weren’t the one running the show on this.
